Education Through Music Announces Expansion To Massachusetts
New York, NY (Top40 Charts) ETM has a history of creating meaningful and effective change in school communities through the implementation of music education around the country, and I am so honored to get to bring this work to Massachusetts schools.

Education Through Music (ETM), the leading non-profit in music education, today announced its newest affiliate: ETM-Massachusetts, which will serve students in Massachusetts during the 2020-2021 school year.

Founded in New York City in 1991, ETM works to provide music as a core subject for all children and has been able to provide quality music education into the core curriculum for thousands of K-12 students. By providing music education into the core curriculum, ETM serves as a catalyst for improvements in overall achievement, motivation for school, and self-confidence. Exponential growth and success over nearly three decades have allowed ETM to launch affiliates in Los Angeles, Colorado, and now: Massachusetts.

"We are so excited about this momentous expansion and welcome the opportunity to pursue equity and access for even more students throughout the United States," said Katherine Damkohler, Director of National Activities at ETM. "Expanding to Boston, which has already demonstrated a commitment to arts in school over the past decade, will ensure that access to music education grows, despite the current education funding crisis nationwide."

Overseeing ETM-Massachusetts will be Adam Calus, who most recently served as Music Director at Charlestown High School, a public high school in Boston. As Executive Director, Calus will be responsible for providing development direction and fundraising strategies to support an aggressive growth plan to the school systems throughout Massachusetts.

"After working as a music educator in Massachusetts for almost ten years now, I am so excited to expand the work I am doing as the Executive Director of ETM-Massachusetts," said Calus. "ETM has a history of creating meaningful and effective change in school communities through the implementation of music education around the country, and I am so honored to get to bring this work to Massachusetts schools. I plan to learn and grow in order to make this organization thrive so that as many students as possible have access to a high-quality music education."

ETM has grown significantly in recent years, implementing coast-to-coast music education programs into the core curriculum of under-resourced schools. Despite the devastating impact of COVID-19 and the need for remote learning in many school districts, ETM will provide access to high-quality music education to about 50,000 students through their programs in New York, Los Angeles, Colorado, and Massachusetts in the 2020-2021 school year.
ETM-Massachusetts can be found online at ETMma.org.

Education Through Music was founded in 1991 to promote the integration of music into the curricula of under-resourced schools in order to enhance students' overall performance and general development. ETM forms long-term partnerships with elementary and middle schools to develop sustainable, long-term music programs.

ETM's comprehensive, sustainable music education network has garnered the support of corporations, public policy makers and foundations, including The Music Man Foundation, CMA Foundation, Steinway & Sons, Booth Ferris Foundation, The Pierre and Tana Matisse Foundation, and D'Addario Foundation.
