The Holiday Season is filled with song and art in Fort Dodge, Iowa with upcoming performances by the Fort Dodge Area Symphony and the Community Holiday Event hosted by the Blanden Art Museum.
Trumpeter Tim Miller will be performing "Trumpeter's Lullaby" at the December 6th program of the Fort Dodge Area Symphony. Miller is the band director at Humboldt Middle School and is also a member of the Karl L. King Municipal Band and Jive for Five. Other holiday favorites that will be performed during the concert include "Hallelujah Chorus" and "
Sleigh Ride". Dr.
David Klee will be playing a flute performance of "Carmen Fantasy" and Scott Johnson with Bill Holcombe present a reading of "Twas the Night Before Christmas".
The Fort Dodge Area Symphony was started in 1949 has been performing in the area for over 65 years. Everyone is invited to attend the annual holiday performance at the Fort Dodge Middle School Auditorium on Sunday, December 6th starting at 3:00 pm. Tickets will be available at the door at $10 for adults and $6 for students.
Celebrating the season with the Community Holiday Event at the Blanden Art Museum on Sunday, December 12th from 5 to 8 pm is a perfect event for the entire family. Local and regional artists will be featuring their art work along with musicians playing favorite holiday songs. Tasty holiday treats for everyone to enjoy and a silent auction that will benefit the Blanden's Art Education Program are also part of the festivities.
A jewel in the Fort Dodge community is the Blanden Art Museum. The museum was built in 1932 and has permanent collections that include the Ann R. Smeltzer Modernist collection of European and American painting and sculpture, the Harold D. Peterson collection of European and American prints, American photography, contemporary American art, Iowa artists, and Japanese screens and prints.
