SANTA MONICA, CA. (Recording Academy) - The Recording Academy today announced that it has appointed David Grossman as Executive Vice President for the organization. In this newly created role, Grossman will report directly to Neil Portnow, President of The Recording Academy, and will serve as a senior partner responsible for managing business development, artist relations and long-range planning for The Academy. Not only will Grossman be responsible for evaluating and creating strategic initiatives to achieve The Recording Academy's mission and vision, he will also serve as a key external interface with the music industry in order to develop collaborative partnerships and generate additional goodwill and support for the organization.

"With more than 25 years of experience on the creative and business side of the music and television industry, David brings passion and proven strategic leadership to this new position," said Portnow. "David's lifelong pursuit of music in a variety of shapes and forms has given him a balanced perspective, which will be a vital asset to The Recording Academy. I am pleased to be working with him and our senior staff as we continue to move our organization forward in a relevant and effective manner."

Prior to joining The Recording Academy, Grossman was the Senior Vice President of Television Music for the Paramount Pictures Television Group, where he oversaw all the creative and business elements involved in putting music into network and syndicated series, pilots and movies for television. Over the course of 16 years at Paramount, Grossman supervised series such as "Jag," "Cheers," "Frasier," "NCIS," "Medium," "Soul Food," "Ed," "Everybody Hates Chris," and "Entertainment Tonight," working with such diverse artists as Stanley Clarke, Los Lobos, Art Garfunkel, Chris Isaak, Trisha Yearwood, Macy Gray and Elvis Costello. Shows under Grossman's supervision have gone on to earn nine Emmy Awards and more than 30 nominations. Previously, Grossman served as Director of Television Music at Columbia Pictures Television, where he supervised shows including "Designing Women," "Crazy Like A Fox," "TJ Hooker" and "Mike Hammer."

Grossman is a frequent panelist on various industry roundtable discussions, currently sits on the board of Mr. Holland's Opus Foundation, and is a member of several music organizations. Film Music magazine cited Grossman as "shaping the future of television music" in 2000.

Grossman studied at the Eastman School of Music and the prestigious Berklee College of Music where he earned his B.A. degree in music composition and later received their Distinguished Alumnus Award for "Outstanding Musical Achievement." Previously, Grossman was a professional drummer for many years for numerous films, television shows, records and pit orchestras after which he obtained his MBA from Pepperdine University.
