Critics Hail Love's 'Black Beauty', Establish New Chapter In Arthur Lee's Legacy
New York, NY (Top40 Charts/ Shore Fire Media) This fall, High Moon Records will release 'Black Beauty,' LOVE's previously unreleased LP from 1973. Chosen as one of Time Magazine's most anticipated releases of 2011, critics are hailing 'Black Beauty' as an instant classic from the late bandleader and songwriter Arthur Lee who is widely recognized as an unsung legend in rock and roll history.

Listen to this week's WNYC Soundcheck a segment on 'Black Beauty' with surviving band member Joe Blocker and Arthur Lee biographer John Einarson here: https://bit.ly/oQV8Zc

"A lost classic." - Rolling Stone

"An excellent album and a welcome addition to the Love discography, occupying a kind of compromise between the fluid psychedelia of Forever Changes and the heavier, Hendrix-influenced sound of latter-day Love." -Vanity Fair

"Psychedelic soul kingpins...a timeless canon...Love captured the noirish-sunshine dialectic better than any local band of the '60s...Love will never die. - LA Times

"Live and raw...Imagine the Jimi Hendrix Experience on steroids, with Lee exhibiting the kind of range on vocals that Hendrix was never capable of." -Variety

"A must-hear record for anyone interested in the legacy of an undisputed musical great." - Under The Radar

"Lee was perfectly at ease stretching the boundaries of his music to encompass the sounds of the world at large." - NPR Music

"Revelatory." - Spin

"Forceful...burns with apocalyptic fervor...beaming in testosterone-fueled garage blasts...sumptuously anti-authoritarian... haunting... gorgeously elliptical... think Nuggets on steroids." - UNCUT

"It's an inestimable gem in the group's vaunted catalog, its majesty posing a giant "what if" in the Love saga." - UNCUT

"Sublime." - High Times

Set for release on CD, vinyl, and digitally, 'Black Beauty' contains all ten original songs recorded in 1973 as well as rare bonus tracks, beautiful packaging with detailed liner notes by Ben Edmonds and never-before-seen photographs by Herbert Worthington (Buddy Miles, Fleetwood Mac). The album was re-mastered by GRAMMY-winner Dan Hersch (Ramones, Alice Cooper). 'Black Beauty' has long represented the Holy Grail for Love enthusiasts. Shelved shortly after its completion when Hair producer/impresario Michael Butler's newly-launched label, Buffalo Records folded, 'Black Beauty' is making its first-ever official release in any format, anywhere. With unparalleled sound, and a wonderfully eclectic collection of songs, the album offers Love fans a rare glimpse into a previously undocumented phase of Arthur Lee's career, while shining a light for new fans to discover the unique genius, that is the music of Arthur Lee and Love.

Co-founded by George Baer Wallace and J.D. Martignon, who recently welcomed Birdie Breeze as Head Of Label Operations, High Moon Records is a New York City-based reissue label, specializing in unearthing exceptional, rare, previously-unreleased, and out-of-print material on CD, vinyl, digital, DVD, and print -- from the '60s, '70s and beyond.
