International Icon Lionel Richie Is The Latest To Receive Universal Music Enterprises' Icon Treatment
New York, NY (Top40 Charts/ Universal Music Enterprises) The Grammy Award-winning, multi-platinum selling superstar Lionel Richie is the latest artist to get the ICON treatment with the release of Lionel Richie - ICON on Sept. 25, 2012, through Universal Music Enterprises (UMe).

The international music legend has created an unforgettable body of work that speaks to the hearts of people of all races, faiths and ages around the world with his universal themes of life, love and loss presented with poetic simplicity and irresistible melodies. He has earned sales of more than 100 million albums, 22 Top 10 hits, five Grammys®, an Academy Award for Best Original Song, a Golden Globe and a host of other awards from virtually every other major entertainment organization.

By defying boundaries, blending genres and ignoring trends to remain true to what is in his heart, the gifted storyteller has shaped popular culture as his music has served as the soundtrack of several generations around the world.

As evidence of his enduring popularity, his 2012 platinum-selling album Tuskegee, a collection of his beloved hits recorded as duets with country stars, has become the music sensation of the year. Indeed, Tuskegee remains the best-selling album released in 2012 by a solo artist in any genre this year.

Tuskegee was released on March 26 and spent two weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and No. 1 on the country albums chart for four weeks.

Tuskegee has become an immediate worldwide hit, debuting at No. 1 on Canada's Top Albums chart and reaching the Top 20 albums charts in 10 countries. It hit the Top 10 albums charts in the United Kingdom, Denmark, Holland, Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong and Sweden. This is his first No. 1 album in Canada in the SoundScan era and his first No. 1 album in Canada since his sophomore solo album, Can't Slow Down, in 1983.

The 11-song Lionel Richie - ICON showcases Richie's incredible solo career and features the original versions of some of his greatest hits and signature songs, including the hit singles "You Are," which topped the Adult Contemporary chart, went to No. 2 on the R&B Singles chart and reached No. 4 on The Billboard Hot 100, and "My Love," also hitting No.1 on the Adult Contemporary chart while climbing to the No. 5 position on The Billboard Hot 100. Both tracks were taken from his 1982 self-titled debut album, which reached No. 1 on the R&B Albums chart and No. 3 on The Billboard 200.

ICON also features his No. 1 smash hits "Hello" and "All Night Long (All Night)" from his 1983 platinum-selling album Can't Slow Down, which hit No. 1 on The Billboard 200 and R&B Albums charts and earned Richie a Grammy Award for Album of the Year. Other songs include his 1985 single "Say You, Say Me," hitting No. 1 on both the Adult Contemporary and Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles & Tracks charts, "Deep River Woman," featuring Alabama, and Richie's recorded version of the smash hit "Lady," a song originally recorded by Kenny Rogers which reached No. 1 on The Billboard Hot 100, Adult Contemporary, and Country Singles charts in 1980.
