The finalists have competed head-to-head during halftime at the May 23rd game verses the Atlanta Dreams at Madison Square Garden. Liberty fans choose their winner, NINA WAGA MOJARES, who will receive a number of prizes including a feature on the KIDZ BOP website and an educational IRA. NINA competed against Nia Imani, a 12 year old Broadway actress and singer who appeared in the theatrical production of "Lion King" in New York City last year. NINA sang the crowd favorite, "And I Am Telling You I'm Not Going," the version song made popular by Jennifer Hudson in her Academy Award winning performance in the motion picture, "Dreamgirls".
NINA WAGA MOJARES from Freehold, NJ started singing at the early age of 3 when her Mom, Jeanette, introduced her to karaoke. The young, multi-talented, NINA has been delighting audiences, receiving well deserved standing ovations, and encore requests wherever and whenever she performs. NINA has a soft; clean, but yet, powerful voice with a touch of R&B/Pop to it. She has been described as a "mini Alicia Keys". NINA's idols are Charice Pempengco, Taylor Swift. Mariah Carey, Alicia Keys, Sarah Geronimo, Jennifer Hudson, and others. She looks up to them and her dream is to be just like them and sing with them, too. NINA loves to perform in front of large crowds and enjoys every second of it!
Proud of her Philippine heritage, NINA is active in the Philippine-American community in the New York tri-state area. She has performed at many cultural and fundraising events. Her contributions have not gone unnoticed. Several weeks ago, NINA was honored with the 2010 Dr. Jose P. Rizal Circle of Excellence Award for 'Outstanding Youth' in the Philippine-American community. Next up, she is scheduled to perform a duet with 12 year old Seven Odon at the Philippine Independence Day Parade and cultural celebration in Manhattan on June 6th.
2010 has been a busy year for the talented NINA. Several months ago, she sang during halftime during a New York Knicks basketball game at Madison Square Garden. She also auditioned for the NBC hit tv show, "America's Got Talent," with her backup dance crew "Legit". Immediately after their performance, celebrity judge Howie Mandrell proclaimed that NINA was "great!", an sentiment echoed by fellow judges Piers Morgan and Sharon Osbourne. Furthermore, NINA was featured and performed on a episode of the nationally televised "Maury" (Povich) program as part of "Maury's Most Talented Kids 2010" annual episode. Also, NINA was a special guest vocalist at a concert by multiple Grammy Award nominee and Tony Award winning singer, Melba Moore, on Staten Island, NY.
In addition to her vocal gifts, NINA, is an award-winning ballroom dancer. NINA and her dance partner, Gabriel Basalatan, (under the direction of Spencer Nyemchek) have become skilled in the rumba, samba, jive, and cha-cha, winning many competitions throughtout the US.
