7th Annual Musicares Map Fund Benefit Concert To Honor Depeche Mode's Dave Gahan And Vans Warped Tour Founder Kevin Lyman
Santa Monica, CA (Top40 Charts/ Recording Academy) The seventh annual MusiCares MAP FundSM benefit concert will honor Depeche Mode lead singer Dave Gahan and Vans Warped Tour founder Kevin Lyman at Club Nokia in Los Angeles on Friday, May 6, 2011. Gahan will be honored with the Stevie Ray Vaughan Award for his dedication and support of the MusiCares MAP Fund, and for his commitment to helping other addicts with the addiction and recovery process. Lyman will be the recipient of MusiCares' From the Heart Award for his unconditional friendship and dedication to the mission and goals of the organization. All proceeds will benefit the MusiCares MAP Fund, which provides members of the music community access to addiction recovery treatment regardless of their financial situation.

Hosted by comedian Greg Behrendt, the evening will feature a special performance by Gahan with drummer Victor Indrizzo, producer/musician Vincent Jones, and bassist Martyn LeNoble, as well as performances by the groundbreaking alternative rock band Jane's Addiction, two-time GRAMMY winners Ozomatli, and a special acoustic performance by Paramore. Adam Bravin and Justin Warfield from She Wants Revenge will DJ live during dinner. Additional artists will be announced shortly.

"Our annual MusiCares MAP Fund benefit focuses attention on the disease of addiction and the challenges and rewards of the path to recovery," said Neil Portnow, President/CEO of The Recording Academy and MusiCares. "While substance abuse issues are prevalent in every sector of society, the music industry is a particularly visible microcosm of these struggles, and it is critical that we take this opportunity to generate resources that will provide help to members of the music community in need. Both Dave and Kevin have been steadfast supporters of the MusiCares MAP Fund and champions of recovery, so it is very meaningful that we will be honoring them this year."

"The MusiCares MAP Fund is an unbelievably important and courageous organization," said Gahan. "They continue to make a momentous commitment to the music community, and I am proud to support their ongoing work in raising awareness and funds."

"My work in the music industry continues to be extremely rewarding," said Lyman. "But I've also seen the devastation that addiction brings to artists, crew members, and others who work in this business, and that is why I wholeheartedly support the work of MusiCares. For the past two years, they've sent staff members on the road with the Vans Warped Tour to bring information and resources directly to music people, and I know they provide similar resources to artists, festivals, and awards shows around the country."

This special dinner and concert offers Living Room Sets that seat 10 for $12,500, Individual Floor Seats for $1,250 per person, and General Admission Floor - Standing Room Only (limited availability) for $500; contact Wynnie Wynn for ticket information at 310.392.3777 or [email protected]. VIP Balcony Seats for $250 per person and General Admission Balcony Seats for $125 per person are available only through Ticketmaster beginning on March 11 at www.ticketmaster.com. Out of respect for the clients the MusiCares MAP Fund serves, the event will be alcohol-free.

One of music's most iconic frontmen, Dave Gahan has become a hero to millions as the voice of Depeche Mode. His commanding vocals helped establish the legendary group's signature sound, which has left an indelible legacy on indie and popular music. Today, Depeche Mode remains among a select premier league of recording artists who have sold more than 100 million albums worldwide, making them one of the most successful bands in history. With Gahan as their frontman, all of the band's 12 studio releases have reached the Top 10, not only in the UK and United States, but in more than 20 countries around the globe. Gahan, who is renowned for his electric stage presence and high-energy performances, has consistently propelled Depeche Mode's larger than life live shows to new heights. This was truly evident on the band's recent world tour, which spanned 102 shows across 40 countries to more than 2.7 million people, including arenas and stadiums.

Although Gahan has fronted Depeche Mode for more than 30 years, 2003 marked his debut as a fully-fledged songwriter for the band. He has also gone on to become an accomplished solo artist in his own right, having releasing two critically acclaimed albums, including 2003's Paper Monsters and 2007's Hourglass.

Kevin Lyman began his career booking bands for his university and as a roadie for then unknown acts such as Bad Religion, the Bangles and the Untouchables. Later he was a promoter representative for seminal punk rock and metal bands, working in many of the legendary L.A. clubs. Lyman is best known as the creator of the Vans Warped Tour, the longest-running music and extreme sports festival in the world today. In addition, he also is co-producer of the Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival, Rockstar Energy Drink Taste of Chaos tour and Willie Nelson's Country Throwdown.

In 2005, Lyman established the Unite The United Foundation, an organization set up to encourage fans, artists and industry leaders from the music, touring and lifestyle worlds to come together through charitable contributions, events and volunteer efforts in order to work toward positive change in our national community. Since its inception, Unite The United has raised more than $1 million for a variety of causes such as EarthEco International, Hollywood Heart, KeepABreast Foundation, MusiCares, Music Saves Lives, and Skate 4 Cancer to name a few. In recognition of his philanthropic and eco-friendly efforts, Lyman was honored with the Humanitarian Award at the Billboard Touring Awards in 2009.

MusiCares recently announced the launch of an innovative fundraising campaign aimed at the public to create the world's largest photo mosaic comprised of one million photo tiles. "Be A Part Of The Heart" encourages fans, recording artists, and corporate and media partners to come together to raise awareness and generate resources to help MusiCares continue to provide a safety net of critical assistance for music people in times of need. Participants can visit www.beapartoftheheart.com and make a contribution of $1 to receive an online tile, where they can upload a photo and include their stories and links to websites and social media platforms. There is no limit to the donation amount and the tiles that go with it. Tiles can be created in honor of loved ones, to commemorate important milestones or holidays, and to engage other members of the public. There also is a place to include text about key musical influences. In addition, the initiative offers a chance to win two tickets to the 54th Annual GRAMMY Awards. The "Be A Part Of The Heart" program will continue throughout 2011 with a special unveiling event and concert to be announced in December.

MusiCares offers programs and services to members of the music community including emergency financial assistance for basic living expenses including rent, utilities and car payments; medical expenses including doctor, dentist and hospital bills; psychotherapy; and treatment for HIV/AIDS, Parkinson's disease, Alzheimer's disease, hepatitis C, and other critical illnesses. MusiCares offers nationwide educational workshops covering a variety of subjects, including financial, legal, medical, and substance abuse issues, and programs in collaboration with healthcare professionals that provide services such as flu shots, hearing tests and medical/dental screenings.

The MusiCares MAP Fund allows access to addiction recovery treatment and sober living resources for members of the music community regardless of their financial circumstances. Staffed by qualified chemical dependency and intervention specialists, MusiCares Safe Harbor Rooms offer a support network to those in recovery while they are participating in the production of televised music shows and other major music events. MusiCares holds weekly addiction support groups for people to discuss how to best cope with the issues surrounding the recovery process. The MusiCares Sober Touring Network is a database of individuals across the United States who can take music people to recovery support meetings while on the road.

Established in 1989 by The Recording Academy, MusiCares provides a safety net of critical assistance for music people in times of need. MusiCares' services and resources cover a wide range of financial, medical and personal emergencies, and each case is treated with integrity and confidentiality. MusiCares also focuses the resources and attention of the music industry on human service issues that directly impact the health and welfare of the music community.
