Advertisement Debut New Track 'Caroline's Wings,' Tour Kicks Off Next Week
New York, NY (Top40 Charts) On "Caroline's Wings," Seattle's Advertisement turn to both honesty and facetiousness as forms of catharsis, and they make no effort to hide their growing ambition. The single unveils a curiosity for vast, textured arrangements, a bitingly self-aware and wildly alive sense of humor, growing obsessions with the sounds of Now Again Records, Amon Duul, the Dead, and playful, surreal musings on the ridiculous character of love and nightlife.

The tape is a 2-song image of a band in repose, spinning at ease on a thin glass edge somewhere between genuine, introspective songwriting and rather convincing delusions of grandeur. Like a pair of smirking jesters dancing, stealing, and throwing fire in the courts of Jerry Garcia, Lou Reed and Ray Davies, "Caroline's Wings" and B-side "Last Night" point both nowhere and everywhere. They suggest everything and promise nothing, and the joke is always on you.

This single captures a self-aware and expansive period of growth in Advertisement's sound. In the course of less than a year, the band has gracefully extrapolated upon and, in many senses, exceeded its early stylings - toned down, in other words, are some the brash shit talking tendencies and drunken gestures of their debut EP "This Is Advertisement" (out earlier this year on Help Yourself Records). Where once stood a band that could be placed in fairly linear relation to their earlier works, which include the psychedelic, blown-out punk outfit Vacant Life (Iron Lung Records) and the reclusive, demented Nasti (Iron Lung Records), now exists something much more comfortably lush, strangely incongruent, and mystified.

'Caroline's Wings' will be released through Oakland based Smoking Room Records on October 5th. The band hit the road next week. Highlights include NYC's Brooklyn Bazaar, Toronto's Not Dead Yet Fest, Seattle, Chicago and more.
