New York, NY (Top40 Charts/ Shore Fire Media) - Last night, Mavis Staples took stage at the Kennedy Center Honors to pay tribute to 2010 recipient and fellow Paul McCartney. Along with James Taylor and Steven Tyler, Staples performed rousing renditions of "Let It Be" and "Hey Jude," earning a standing ovation from the distinguished crowd which included the President and Michelle Obama, and honorees Oprah Winfrey, Merle Haggard, Jerry Herman, and Bill T. Jones. The 2010 Kennedy Center Honors will air on CBS at 9PM EST on December 28.

In other news, Mavis Staples has earned a GRAMMY nomination in the Best Americana Album category for her stellar new record "You Are Not Alone."
Produced by Jeff Tweedy, the album has won universal acclaim from critics, and earned Mavis the highest Billboard chart debut of her career, but it also garnered some of her best reviews ever.

The New York Times praised the album as "Full of struggles, stubborn faith and bluesy, twangy guitar," while NPR enthused "she turns a simple pop song into a lament that could move a listener to tears."
