New York, NY (Top40 Charts/ Anchor Bay Films) Anchor Bay Films has picked up the rights to
Snoop Dogg and Wiz Khalifa's film Mac and Devin Go To High School. The agreement includes all rights, excluding subscription VOD, for the U.S., Australia and New Zealand. Directed by Dylan Brown, Mac and Devin Go To High School follows the release of the chart-topping soundtrack of the same name which debuted back in December 2011. Additionally, the film will be supported by Snoop and Wiz at numerous upcoming tour dates. Today's deal was announced by Bill Clark, President of Anchor Bay Entertainment.
"We're extremely excited to be working with Snoop and Wiz," stated Clark. "Their new album has done extremely well and we're happy they chose Anchor Bay Films to release Mac and Devin."
"Snoop has an extremely loyal following and somehow, even though he's only one person, he's everywhere," commented
Kevin Kasha, Executive Vice President, Acquisitions and Co-Productions for Anchor Bay Films. "We're excited that he's joining the Anchor Bay Films family and Mac and Devin will easily become the Cheech and Chong of this era."
Valedictorian hopeful, Devin Overstreet (Khalifa) struggles to pen his graduation speech when it becomes clear that all his academic overachievements left him with little-to-no life experiences. He finds an unlikely inspiration in Mac Johnson (Snoop Dogg), the least achieving student on campus. Mac, a 15-year senior and consummate ladies man, is smitten with the school's new substitute chemistry teacher. He soon realizes that the only way he'll truly have a chance with her is if he finally graduates high school. In only three weeks, Mac must cram four years of high school academics and Devin must cram four years of teenage experience.
In addition to Snoop and Wiz, Mac and Devin Go To High School stars Mike Epps (Jumping the Broom, Lottery Ticket), Andy Milonakis (2 Dudes and a Dream, Who's Your Caddy?), Affion Crocket (Never Back Down, Welcome Home,
Roscoe Jenkins) and features voice over by rapper
Mystikal as Slow Burn as well as a cameo appearance by the hit pop group, Far East Movement. The film is filled with some of the latest music from
Snoop Dogg and
Wiz Khalifa including the hit "Young, Wild and Free" and features Bruno Mars, Curren$y,
Juicy J and
Mike Posner as well.
Snoop Dogg's ability to stay at the forefront of popular culture and connect with his fans has resulted in unwavering relevance. While he's a TV and movie star, the founder and coach of a hugely successful youth football league and a savvy adapter of new technology,
Snoop Dogg remains, without a doubt, The Doggfather of hip-hop.
Wiz Khalifa took the rap world by storm in 2011 with the release of his Grammy-nominated platinum hit "Black And Yellow." Wiz released his major label debut, "Rolling Papers," in March 2011, which has gone on to reach gold-certification and has spawned 3 multi-platinum singles.
The deal was negotiated by
Kevin Kasha, Michele Sanchez and Marc Barson for Anchor Bay Films; Ben Weiss of Paradigm and Jamie Afifi of Ziffren Brittenham negotiated the deal on behalf of the filmmakers.
