Edison Chen Joins The 2011 Zebra (Chengdu) Music Festival In A New Interactive Experience
New York, NY (Top40 Charts/ Zebra (Chengdu) Music Festival) "On April 6, details for the 2011 Zebra (Chengdu) Music Festival were officially announced in a press conference held in the Sina.com studios in Beijing's Ideal Plaza in Zhongguan Cun. The press conference was broadcast live on Sina.com, as well as across Sina's microblogging service, Weibo, creating an in-depth and extensive online interactive experience.

"At the press conference, it was announced that the Zebra (Chengdu) Music Festival will take place on April 30-May 2 in Chengdu's Poly 198 Park. After a three-year hiatus from music, Hong Kong Edison Chen re-emerges to top the 2011 Zebra (Chengdu) Music Festival line-up in what will be his first music festival experience. Yida Huang and Wang Xiaokun join Edison Chen on the roster to represent a new generation of songwriters; the three will also feature as judges for the "Zebra Star" talent competition, gurus of the festival's specially designed App, and leaders of the festival's "Green Footprint" movement. Also at the press conference, a special video invitation from rock legend Xu Wei was played to the delight of all the fans awaiting him at 2011 ZMF Chengdu.

The 2011 Zebra (Chengdu) Music Festival is organized by the Chengdu Foreign Cultural Exchange Association and the Chengdu Media Group; co-organized by Chengdu Broadcasting Station, Chengdu Xindu District, Zebra Media, the Chengdu Performing Arts Group and Meili Music Channel; with support from the Chengdu Visual and Cultural Communications Company and the Poly Real Estate Group.
Year after year, the Zebra Music Festival has been the most highly anticipated cultural and entertainment event for the people of Chengdu. With high expectations from both the fans and media, the organizers have quickly answered the call of duty as ushers of the summer. Moreover, Zebra Media CEO Scarlett Li promises not only another unforgettable music festival, but also that 2011 ZMF Chengdu will only mark the beginning months of revelry to come.

Edison Chen at the Top of Zebra's Three "Firsts"

"When the lineup of participating artists was announced at the April 6 press conference, it was Edison Chen that undoubtedly grasped the attention of both media and fans alike. This May holiday, not only will the Zebra stage mark the place where Edison Chen makes his first domestic public performance in three years, it will also be the first time he will be participating in a major outdoor music festival.

"This May in Chengdu, Edison will make up to Zebra music fans for his three-year absence by performing songs from his latest album, Confusion. Each song on the album expresses Chen's transformation and maturity over the past three years. When asked why he chose Zebra as the stage for his comeback, he remarked that Zebra embodies the open-mindedness of music festivals and how music should be enjoyed. Furthermore, he noted Zebra's influence and professionalism, adding that he heard positive feedback from friend MC Hotdog, who participated in the previous two ZMFs and is featured on Confusion.

"In addition to Edison's first music festival apperance, the 2011 Zebra (Chengdu) Music Festival also presents, for the first time, popular music star Chen Chuseng onstage with a live band. Rock legend Xu Wei will also, for the first time, be creating a set design especially for ZMF, meaning those who missed Xu Wei concert in Chengdu last year can breathe a sigh of relief.

"A Star-Studded Cast Launches "Zebra Star"

"Other than limelighting notable stars like Xu Wei, Edison Chen, Chen Chusheng, Yida Huang and Wang Xiaokun, this music festival's lineup also shows ZMF's dedication to supporting original music. This year Zebra is recommending a few Chengdu bands to the big stage - Mosaic, Ashura, Mr. Chelonian, The Trouble, Sound Toy - as well launching the "Zebra Star" competition, in which undiscovered talent will get to a shot at performing on the big stage.

"The "Battle of the Bands" contest began one month before the start of the festival on college and university campuses throughout Chengdu, and was narrowed down to 15 bands and/or performing acts who will show their worth on ZMF's Sky Stage. These bands will be judged by a panel to include Yida Huang, Wang Xiaokun, Chen Chusheng, festival organizers, media, critics and peers from Chengdu's music scene; who will decide on three finalists to perform on the Main Stage in a final battle. The audience will then decide a winner, and the last band standing will be invited to participate in a different 2011 Zebra Music Festival held in another city.

"A Three-Day Music Festival to Last for Months to Come

"From the very first Zebra (Chengdu) Music Festival, Zebra has consistently carried out the tradition of "a non-stop, three-day celebration of music," and is overwhelmingly elected by the people of Chengdu as the most anticipated event of the year. ZMF continues to break domestic music festival attendence records year after year, and 2011 will be no different. Furthermore, the 2011 Zebra (Chengdu) Music will build a foundation to carry the festival season on for many months to come.

"In addition to the major colleges and universities in Chengdu participating in the "Zebra Star Battle of the Bands" competition, there will be plenty of interactive opportunities for the audience to get involved.

"For non-Chengduers, the most enticing highlight will be the "Zebra Conquers the Landlord" contest, in which those traveling from afar to attend the festival will have a chance to win the "Zebra Conquers the Landlord" grand prize: free accommodations and a free return ticket.

"Also new in 2011, the organizers have invested in new mobile technology to enhance the music festival experience. Zebra has developed a completely original mobile application that can provide festival goers with free services, concert information, interactive games, networking outlets, booking services and more. This is the first mobile software to be developed specifically for a music festivals and will be compatable with iPhone and Android clients, with the aim of being developed for future festivals and events.
Furthermore, the Zebra Music Festival will utilize Sina.com's Weibo service as an information-sharing and audience-interaction microblogging platform (i.e. discussing Edison and other performers, giving and receiving live updates from the festival grounds, casting votes in the "Zebra Star" contest). Also, Tudou.com will broadcast live from the festival grounds, creating yet another channel for the audience to have real-time access and interaction.

As Always, Zebra Champions a Philosophy of "I Care"

"The first Zebra Music Festival in 2009 carried the slogan of "I Care," encouraging individuals to think about their environment, society and other important issues. With each year that has followed, Zebra has continued to work closely with local, national and international charities and NGOs, including providing information booths and on-site games and activities during the festival. The 2011 Zebra (Chengdu) Music Festival will carry on the "I Care" banner wth a series of volunteer activities, including a "Green Footprint" movement co-sponsored by the China Environmental Protection Foundation. Zebra encourages festival-goers not only to enjoy a relaxed holiday in a pleasant and natural environment, but also to love the earth and the sky and support a "green" music festival by going barefoot.
