"The song is about leaving something toxic then missing it once you realize it's all you had," said
Kevin Patrick about the song.
UPROXX's Steven Hyden published a profile on Field Medic and said, "he's taken the aesthetic of the road-weary troubadour and imbued it with a millennial sensibility."
Acclaim for fade into the dawn:
"The intimacy that Patrick conjures throughout fade into the dawn is a rare type... [the album] gathers together the best of Field Medic's scattered impulses and boils away the excess, resulting in a highly listenable and silently inspiring collection." - AllMusic
"It's the 27-year-old singer-songwriter's most complete and, in parts, surreally beautiful record to date — drifting off into lush acoustics more often than it relies on tinned noise, laced with twilit reflections on ruin without succumbing entirely to darkness." - The FADER
"Patrick is as gifted a filmmaker as he is a musician, and Field Medic is one of the most exciting indie acts of 2019." - UPROXX
