Nashville, TN. (Top40 Charts/ Tunecore.com) - Solid
State Logic, Tunecore.com and Eventful are proud to announce Gavin Mikhail, a Nashville-based singer-songwriter, as the winner of the recent "Lay It Down And Mix It Up In The UK" competition, which saw unsigned artists compete on Eventful.com to become the most 'Demanded' act by music fans. Mikhail and up to four other band members will be treated to a one week all-expense-paid trip to England to record at
Peter Gabriel's Real World Studios, one of the top five recording studios on the planet.
Phil Wagner, SSL Inc. President, comments, "SSL is pleased to announce the winner. Gavin had a strong following from the start and used an ingenious method to promote himself. He offered free downloads of one of his recorded tracks to people voting for him through his MySpace page. The Real World contest was successful for SSL in promoting our brand to a new league of potential users."
"I feel like I just won the lottery," says Mikhail, who lists Peter Gabriel first among his major influences. "The chance to make a record at my favorite artist's studio is a dream come true for me. I can't thank my friends and fans enough for their overwhelming support in this contest."
Presenting an entry field of 1,700 U.S.-based unsigned indie artists, over 75,000 fans participated by using Eventful's Demand service to request their favorite artists to play in their cities, of which more than 22,000 were for Gavin Mikhail, the contest's winning artist.
Through the use of Eventful's unique technology, fans of each group were able to 'Demand' their favorite independent artists, empowering them to grant this amazing opportunity to their favorite musician. This also allowed artists to encourage their fans (through the artist's Web site or MySpace page) to support them by sending them to Real World Studios. The grand prize includes studio time, airfare, ground transportation, food, lodging, an engineer and assistant and 100% unlimited access and complete lockout of "The Big Room" for five days.
TuneCore CEO and co-founder Jeff Price says, "TuneCore is all about enabling bands to succeed: helping them make music, getting it out into the world and providing them with opportunities for marketing and promotion. We are very pleased that Gavin has won the contest and we are looking forward to listening to the results of the recording session at Real World."
"Eventful's partnership with TuneCore and SSL created a phenomenal opportunity for hundreds of unsigned artists," said Jordan Glazier, CEO of Eventful. "The competition leveraged the strengths of Eventful's unique Demand service, which empowers fans to influence where their favorite artists tour, and was a complete success."
