NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Country news website) - Funeral services for gospel music legend Vestal Goodman will be held Thursday (Jan. 1) in Nashville.
The 74-year-old singer, known as the "Queen of Gospel Music," died Saturday (Jan. 27) near Orlando, Fla. The matriarch of the Happy Goodman Family became George Jones' spiritual inspiration when he was recovering from a near-fatal automobile accident in 1999. She and Jones recorded "Mansion Over the Hilltop" for his 2003 CD, The Gospel Collection, and also sang together at the opening of the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum in 2001.
