New York, NY (Top40 Charts/ Shore Fire Media) - MTV has chosen Ian Axel's "This Is the New Year," from his forthcoming album of the same name (Feb 15/tinyOGRE), to be the theme song for a new documentary series titled "I Used to Be Fat." The series, which profiles teenagers as they take control of their lives before heading to college, premieres Dec 29. Check out the trailer here: https://on.mtv.com/eNn3Ft

For those who can't wait until the new year for Axel's music, today marks the release of 'This Is (Almost) the New Year,' a three-track digital EP produced by John Alagia (John Mayer, Dave Matthews Band) and Dan Romer (Ingrid Michaelson, Jenny Owen Youngs).

Axel's songwriting combines the resonant piano work of Elton John with the confessional quality of Sufjan Stevens and the charming quirkiness of Regina Spektor. His exuberant live shows have had fans consistently lining up around the block for tickets in New York City, where he recently played a sold-out Mercury Lounge show.

Stay tuned for more on the new album, and additional U.S. tour dates to be announced.
