New York, NY (Top40 Charts) Dan O'Farrell & The Difference Engine formed in
September 2016, rehearsed twice then recorded this album, bringing to life songs that had been carefully nurtured by the former Accrington Stanley frontman.
Jonathan Richman meets The Burning Hell, Dan O'Farrell is a songwriter that challenges the world around him through songs that utilise his razor sharp wit, intelligence and keen ear for melody to maximum effect. From rockabilly rumble to male-voice choir, Dan's quiet pleas for revolution are juxtaposed with tracks that rock loud and hard. He embraces the ache of modern life: from atrocities on the news to our 'KFC towns' devoid of individuality and the ubiquitous screens we have glued to our faces - 'like zombies from the ground".
Backing vocals, percussion and sparse guitar overdubs were added in Dan's shed to save money, listen carefully and you can hear that the glockenspiel on 'Broken By Love' was recorded on Guy Fawke's Night, whilst the acoustic lead guitar on 'Light In Your Darkness' was recorded during a torrential rainstorm.
Dan O'Farrell & The Difference Engine follows Dan's long term career as vocalist, guitarist and songwriter with Accrington Stanley, who had two albums in the first fifty released from the John Peel archive.
Embarking on a solo career following his departure from Accrington Stanley in late 2016, he supported the likes of Wreckless Eric,
Robyn Hitchcock, Steve Mason, Mark Chadwicke from The Levellers, and was also invited to play at Bestival. Very much a family affair, Dan's eleven year old daughter Ruby added the vocal part to the beautiful lead track 'Rosaline Wins'.
The album, currently available on CD and as a digital download will be available on vinyl from May 19th.
