New York, NY (Top40 Charts) Jacob Collier - "the colorful Mozart of Gen-Z" (NY Times) - has announced that his Djesse Vol. 4 (Deluxe) album (Hajanga/ Interscope/ Decca/ Universal Music) will be released October 9. This self-produced expanded version of Collier's latest album, initially released on February 29 of this year, features five new recordings that further explore Collier's boundless artistic curiosity, and celebrate all volumes of his Djesse quadrilogy.
The five new songs to be released next week include the following: "Wild Wild Sea" was a catalyst to album opener "100,000 Voices" and Collier's mission to include 100,000 voices singing together on his album. It features the Metropole Orkest, conducted by Jacob's mother, Suzie Collier - and is a nod to the expansive orchestral feeling of Djesse Vol. 1. "Magic" was written by Collier with Emily King in mind. Collier is a longtime fan of King's, and she joined his spring U.S. tour where a friendship formed and this song - which conjures the R&B/funky feel of Djesse Vol. 3 - coalesced. "All Around You" is three years in the making, and marks a true bucket list moment for Collier. Hearing the Mystery Of The Bulgarian Voices when he was just a teenager was a moment of profound inspiration; he was finally able to fly to Sofia, Bulgaria to record and perform a special collaborative concert with them this past summer. "Bridge Over Troubled Water - Live at the Greek Theater" was captured at Collier's headlining show there earlier this year. Surprise guests John Legend and Tori Kelly, who are also featured on the album version, brought the house down with a series of dazzling vocal performances that have gone viral (watch here). "Stars - Voice Memo," which harkens back to the acoustic tones of Djesse Vol. 2, provides a soulful and deeply personal conclusion to Djesse.
Says Collier: "Here are five additional songs of mine to conclude the journey of Djesse - all intensely special to me in their own way, and wildly contrasting! They sprawl from the orchestral worlds of my childhood (conducted by my superhero mother Suzie Collier), funkier terrain (joined wherein by the mighty Emily King), the irrepressible power of legendary folkloric Female Bulgarian choirs, and a voice-memo acoustic recording of a new acoustic song - alongside one of my favourite moments ever to occur in a decade of performing live - the moment where John and Tori joined me for Bridge, live at the Greek Theatre earlier this year."
It's been a truly tremendous 2024 for Collier. He started the year by winning his 6th GRAMMY Award, and performing with Joni Mitchell during the GRAMMY Awards telecast. Djesse Vol. 4 led to profiles on CBS Sunday Morning, Nightline, NPR's All Things Considered and more. He was featured on the cover of DownBeat and Rolling Stone UK, was the music director for an issue of Harper's Bazaar, performed on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Jimmy Kimmel Live! and a special NYC GRAMMY Museum event with Jason Robert Brown, launched his own signature guitar with Strandberg (and will launch a signature Taylor 5-string guitar on October 11), and will make his debut on Austin City Limits with a performance airing on October 19 (PBS). With more than 200,000 tickets sold across the globe in 2024 alone, Collier also completed his biggest North American tour ever this spring, selling out Radio City Music Hall and other legendary venues. He will continue touring internationally through the rest of the year, which will conclude by headlining London's O2 on December 9. See below for the full itinerary.
Collier has also just released a video that was filmed in the Arctic - a collaboration with Aurora and Greenpeace. The video captures a performance of Collier and Aurora playing a mashup of their songs "A Rock Somewhere" and "The Seed" in front of the Sveabreen, Svalbard glacier; a rallying cry for ocean and climate protection. Watch here:
As the epic climax to the four-part journey that first began in 2018, Djesse Vol. 4 features 16 sweeping songs and an unsurprisingly staggering list of special guests. Chris Martin, John Legend, aespa, Tori Kelly, Madison Cunningham, Chris Thile, Yelle, CHIKA, Anoushka Shankar, The Aeolians 2018 Choir, Lindsey Lomis and his mother Suzie Collier all join the fray, alongside the hit singles featuring Camilo, Shawn Mendes, Stormzy & Kirk Franklin, Michael McDonald & Lawrence, Brandi Carlile, John Mayer & Lizzy McAlpine, a co-write with Remi Wolf, and the collective "Audience Choir" of 100,000+ fans' voices, which Collier recorded in every corner of the world across his last two years of global touring.
