John Prine To Release New Album 'For Better, Or Worse,' Out September 30, 2016
New York, NY (Top40 Charts) Featuring Duets With Iris Dement, Alison Krauss, Miranda Lambert, Kacey Musgraves, Susan Tedeschi, Lee Ann Womack And More First Single "Who's Gonna Take The Garbage Out" Streaming Now Via Npr Music: https://n.pr/29HDpRN

On September 30, iconic American songwriter John Prine will release his new studio album, 'For Better, Or Worse,' on his own label Oh Boy Records, distributed by Thirty Tigers. 'For Better, Or Worse' is a collection of classic songs originally written or popularized by artists like Hank Williams, George Jones, Ernest Tubb, Buck Owens and others, and recorded here as duets (plus one solo Prine recording) with some of the most prominent female artists from country and roots music - past collaborators and new artists alike - including Iris DeMent, Alison Krauss, Miranda Lambert, Kacey Musgraves, Susan Tedeschi, Lee Ann Womack and more.

The first single, "Who's Gonna Take The Garbage Out," featuring Iris DeMent, premiered this morning via NPR Music accompanied by an interview with John. They called John and Iris "well-matched as a bantering, grudgingly tender couple...her needling, scrappy wife and his fumbling, stubborn husband conjuring profoundly frayed patience." The classic songs on 'For Better, Or Worse' are in John Prine's blood. "I cut my teeth on Hank Williams songs," he says. "When I sing these songs there is a small pipeline straight from my heart to my lips."

'For Better, Or Worse' is a sequel of sorts to Prine's beloved 1999 album 'In Spite Of Ourselves', which employed a similar format. AllMusic said that album "ranks as one of Prine's finest works," and it is being released on vinyl for the first time on July 29th via Thirty Tigers.

This fall, John Prine will celebrate both the new album and his approaching 70th birthday with two shows at Nashville's storied Ryman Auditorium, September 30 and October 1, where he'll be joined by some of his duet partners from 'For Better, Or Worse.' He is also set to receive the PEN Song Lyrics of Literary Excellence award, joining a select group of past honorees including Chuck Berry, Leonard Cohen, and Randy Newman.

In a profile that ran earlier this year, the New York Times called John Prine a "songwriter with a gift for articulating moments almost beyond words." Bob Dylan has said of his work "mid-western mindtrips to the nth degree... and he writes beautiful songs" and he has been praised by several generations of songwriters from Roger Waters to Steve Earle to Bon Iver's Justin Vernon. Prine will be joined on tour this fall by a younger generation of artists who claim him as an influence, including Margo Price, Shovels & Rope, Amanda Shires and more. See below for a complete list of upcoming dates.
