"Baz Luhrmann made one of my favourite movies and I can't think of a pair more perfect than John and Kenzie to bring the music video version to life. Not only are they the same age as this iconic, love-struck duo, we can all remember our first crush and or can relate to falling for someone we might not get," said director Nayip Ramos. "We gave the timeless story a small town feel and a fresh spin. I wanted this video to feel like a mini-movie - something you can watch again and again."
"
What If" cuts to the core of the fun and excitement of a having a crush - or a close friend who might be something more. After Johnny and Mackenzie's sold-out 2017 North American and European co-headlining tour, fans can't get enough of the new music from the dynamic duo.
Johnny said "This is definitely my favourite music video to date! I had an amazing time working with Mackenzie and Nayip Ramos once again on such a creative project. We think our fans are going to love the
Romeo and
Juliet story line and we can't wait to share it."
"The making of "
What If" was such a fun experience and I'm happy I got to make it with one of my close friends and the talented Nayip Ramos," added Mackenzie. "We're excited for you to see it."
With a combined social following of over 16 million fans, notable award nominations (most recently 2018 Kids' Choice Awards nominee for Favourite Musical YouTube Creator and in 2017 Favourite Viral
Music Artist) under his belt,
Johnny Orlando is at the forefront of a new generation of Canadian musicians making a global impact. He was recently signed to Universal
Music Canada and is working on new music expected out later this year.
'Dance Moms' alumni Mackenzie Ziegler is highly favored on social media platforms including Instagram, Snapchat, Twitter, and musical.ly, and has drawn in over 25 million followers collectively and garnered more than 250 million views on YouTube. Her debut album soared to #1 on the iTunes Pop Charts.
