New York, NY (Top40 Charts) Serving up a tropical taste of the waning summer, KRBY has crafted a sensual electronica groove that features Lizz Vega's sultry prowl on the single "What U Like," which dropped from KRBY Music. The producer-drummer-vocalist delivers a dancefloor filler constructed of elements familiar and futuristic, vacillating in tone, tempo and texture in the simmering build up to Vega's sublime staccato vocal chorus.
After assembling the track, KRBY asked Vega to work on lyrics and vocal melodies. When Vega struggled to come up with the hook after penning the verses inspired by her current romantic dalliance, KRBY asked the singer to freestyle to see what ideas would materialize.
"I told her to sing 'What U Like' a bunch of different ways until something pops. The idea for the unusual vocalization of 'like' came up and I created everything else by editing and remixing her freestyles together. Lizz really stepped up and brought her soulful voice to the project," said KRBY.
"What U Like" is KRBY's first offering since last December when she dropped "KRBY's Christmas Special," a ten-tracker showcasing nine different vocalists that garnered nearly 20,000 Spotify streams for the holiday standards wrapped in wildly imaginative electronic beats and sonicscapes adorned with ribbons of bright harmonic bows far from staid traditions. The colorful aural gift will be opened again this December during a Twelve Days of Christmas promotion in which one song will be feted per day in the twelve days before Christmas. Two new tracks will be unveiled on days eleven and twelve. KRBY is also in the lab working on a full-length album for 2019 that will contain new songs and revamp some of her earlier material that will be widely released for the first time.
The Chicago-born and bred KRBY took up drums at age eleven and guitar at 18. Turning pro at 23 and adding DJ skills to her repertoire, she experimented with remixing and production while studying post sound at Columbia College Chicago.
