TORONTO, CANADA (Top40 Charts/ KAT LUCAS) - Toronto musician Kat
Lucas received the opportunity of a lifetime last Christmas in the form of an invitation to audition for PINK's touring band in L.A.
Lucas was already in the midst of a promising future, having studied with Canadian legend Oscar Peterson on piano and performing in various bands, most recently with Universal artist Shiloh, and EMI/Capitol artist Skye Sweetnam.
Not one to wait around for opportunities, Lucas took action as soon as she heard Pink was releasing a new album. 'I emailed a bunch of people, asking if she was looking for musicians for her touring band, explains Lucas, 'one of them being her drummer, he actually got back to me, which I wasn't expecting.' Months passed, other musicians were hired, but she kept in touch with him. 'Christmas day I sent him an email wishing him happy holidays, and he replied with 'we're auditioning for Pink in a couple of weeks, do you play guitar?' The Musical Director invited her to LA to audition that included about 15 people, narrowed it down to 4. 'Then Pink came in and picked me!' exclaims Lucas, a week later I was in LA rehearsing, a couple of weeks later we were touring Europe.'
Lucas has been playing guitar, keyboards, and backup vocals on the Funhouse tour since February taking her to Europe, the UK, and Australia. The tour of Australia lasted almost four months, the biggest tour there, breaking records. Now, they are touring North America, and will be going back to Europe/UK until the end of the year. Lucas is very excited to be playing her hometown Toronto on Wednesday September 30th.
'It's been a crazy learning and growing experience for me, both musically and personally, says Lucas, 'I feel like I was yanked out of one life and into another! Alecia (Pink) is a great boss, a cool person, and inspires me to work harder as a musician and artist, because she is always pushing herself and never ceases to amaze me.' Lucas is also enjoying the 'girl power' as the band is 5:3 female. 'There's nothing cooler than rocking out with other women, because I understand how hard it can be in this industry to be taken seriously as a female musician.'

More about Kat Lucas:
This artists musical journey began at the age of three, 'I was discouraged from taking piano lessons due to my tiny fingers at first,' says Lucas, 'but I decided to extend my middle one and show 'em what I can do!' Throughout the years, she has studied under many influential musicians - most notably the great Oscar Peterson. A piano prodigy, Lucas was winning prestigious festivals by the age of five, showing technique and musicality beyond her years. She also began composing/songwriting at that time.
Besides classical training, Lucas has trained extensively in improvisation, arrangement, and ensemble work, and is a versatile musician with a unique sense of musicianship and style. Her ears have also been vigorously trained and she is blessed with 'perfect pitch'. She has performed at music festivals/conferences (Warped Tour, COCA, NXNE, CMW) and, as a songwriter, had seen her music featured on television (Family Channel, MuchMusic). In addition, she has made television appearances on MTV VMAs, Jimmy Kimmel, The Today Show, MTV Live, Canada AM, Breakfast Television, and Family Channel.
While on tour with Pink she is finding time to continue to write and record her own music. 'It's a completely different energy when I'm playing my own songs and singing lead vox, I love it!!' says Lucas. 'I'm into heavy guitar riffs, crazy synths, rockin' drums, littered with pop hooks over top. One day it would be awesome to tour with my own project!
Lucas always strives to expand her talents by pursuing a wide range of activities, including songwriting, producing, film-scoring, and studio work. Due to her diverse musical background and versatility, she has earned the respect of both her peers and critics alike.
