Lakeshore Records Presents 'The Family Fang' Soundtrack
New York, NY (Top40 Charts) Lakeshore Records will release THE FAMILY FANG Original Motion Picture Soundtrack digitally on April 29th and on CD later this year. The album features the films original score by Carter Burwell (CAROL, ANOMALISA).

THE FAMILY FANG stars Nicole Kidman and Jason Bateman as adult siblings Annie and Baxter Fang. Scarred from an unconventional upbringing, the two siblings return to their family home. When their parents (Christopher Walken and Maryann Plunkett) performance artists famous for elaborate public hoaxes go missing under troubling circumstances, Baxter and Annie investigate. Unsure whether its foul play or just another elaborate ruse, nothing can prepare them for what they discover. THE FAMILY FANG is directed by Jason Bateman.

"The central characters in THE Family Fang are adult children who have not successfully grown up, Burwell explained. To suggest this, the score relies on the celesta, a bell piano familiar to listeners from the Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy in Tchaikovsky's The Nutcracker.

Academy Award-nominated Carter Burwell has composed the music for more than 80 feature films, including BLOOD SIMPLE, RAISING ARIZONA, MILLER'S CROSSING, BARTON FINK, THE HUDSUCKER PROXY, ROB ROY, FARGO, THE SPANISH PRISONER, GODS AND MONSTERS, VELVET GOLDMINE, THE GENERALS DAUGHTER, THREE KINGS, BEING JOHN MALKOVICH, O BROTHER, WHERE ART THOU? (BAFTA Nominee for Film Music), BEFORE NIGHT FALLS, A KNIGHTS TALE, THE ROOKIE, ADAPTATION, INTOLERABLE CRUELTY, THE LADYKILLERS, NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN, IN BRUGES, BURN AFTER READING, TWILIGHT, WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE (Golden Globe Nominee for Best Original Score), A SERIOUS MAN, THE BLIND SIDE, THE KIDS ARE ALL RIGHT, TRUE GRIT, TWILIGHT: BREAKING DAWN PART 1 & 2, and THE FIFTH ESTATE.

Burwell recent credits include the Coen Brothers HAIL, CAESAR!, ANOMALISA for Charlie Kaufman and Duke Johnson, for the mystery drama MR. HOLMES starring Ian McKellen directed by Bill Condon, and the true crime thriller LEGEND directed by Brian Helgeland. He recently earned Academy Award and Golden Globe Award nominations for CAROL, his third collaboration with Todd Haynes having previously worked together on VELVET GOLDMINE and HBOs mini-series MILDRED PIERCE.

For another level of context celesta is French for heavenly and I used it here to suggest Annie and Baxter's childlike qualities, their fragility, but also their aspirations, said Burwell. The innocence of the celesta is contradicted somewhat by the use of bittersweet harmonies which have more in common with the blues than Tchaikovsky. They're used to suggest the siblings' dysfunction and sadness. It's only in the last scene of the film that these overcast harmonies burn off and the light shines in."

STARZ Digital presents THE FAMILY FANG, opening in New York on April 29 and expanding to theaters Nationwide and On Demand on May 6th. Lakeshore Records will release THE FAMILY FANG Original Motion Picture Soundtrack digitally on April 29th and on CD shortly thereafter.
