Long Island, NY (Long Island
Music Hall of Fame) - The Long Island
Music Hall of Fame has announced that it will present a Long Island Sound Award to DJ legend Denis McNamara in recognition for his outstanding contribution to Long Island's musical heritage. He will receive this award during the Party Out of Bounds: Malibu Sue's
Radio Reunion, at Posh Nightclub in the Garden City Hotel, on Friday, May 12th, 2006 Denis McNamara is unanimously credited with almost single-handedly creating the New Wave and alternative radio formats that defined a generation and swept the nation. Denis was also known for his now famous concert series and his support of local bands. When most rock stations drifted to the more commercial AOR format, Denis bucked this trend by seeking new and innovated music. As punk and New Wave started to become popular at the end of the 1970's most rock stations ignored these genres but Denis once again bucked the trend by playing artists that were breaking new ground.
