LOS ANGELES (www.lwiii.com) - Storied singer/songwriter Loudon Wainwright III has written and recorded a new song called 'Presidents' Day' which he has made available for free download at his web site, https://www.lwiii.com. The song, which Wainwright debuted live at McCabe's Guitar Shop in Santa Monica in March, was greeted with such enthusiasm and support that he decided to make it available for free on the Internet... and encourages fans to send the MP3 files to their friends.

Looking to the holiday's commemoration of presidents George Washington and Abraham Lincoln, Wainwright looks forward to a Presidents' Day in which the White House is free of tenants named George: 'This year I'm queasy about Presidents' Day/For there's been more than one George, I'm so sorry to say.'

Wainwright had this to say upon recording the song earlier this year and putting it on his web site: ''Kindly lend an ear or even two to this recording of my song 'Presidents' Day,' captured live at McCabe's Guitar Shop in Santa Monica. Due to its particular timeliness with regard to our nation's impending electoral decision have made the rather unusual (for me) decision to cast into the ether of cyberspace, there to be had gratis, free of charge for citizens armed with an MP3 player and a taste for broadside material.
It is my sincere hope that those of you who like the song and approve of my plan will assist me in spreading the word about 'Presidents' Day' in order to inform and/or inflame any swing voters out there who remain ambivalent or apathetic about the current administration and its reckless, dreadful policies. I look forward to performing this song in the coming seven or so months anywhere within reason, to anyone willing to listen. It is the least I can do and therefore seems to me worth doing. Thanks for listening.'

On the eve of the Democratic National Convention, he adds: 'Hey America, now that it's Democratic National Convention time and you're not quite sure how you feel about George, Dick, the two Johns, M. Moore, L. Ronstadt, et al, why not go to https://www.lwiii.com and have a free listen to 'Presidents' Day'? It's bound to either thrill or piss you off. A perfect song for this festive and poltroonish season.'
Wainwright's last album was the live So Damn Happy on Sanctuary Records.
