Marie Fredriksson sues Sweden newspaper

STOCKHOLM, Sweden (Roxette Fans Website) - Marie Fredriksson, one half of Swedish pop duo Roxette, sued a Swedish newspaper Monday, claiming it falsely reported she suffered from a second brain tumor.

Fredriksson, who had surgery last year to remove a brain tumor, denied that doctors found a second one, as the newspaper Expressen wrote in January.

In a letter to the paper, her lawyer, Leif Silbersky said the report was false and sought an apology and a $58,500 payment.

Expressen apologized and said its report had no basis, but the issue of payment was never settled. Ulf Isaksson, one of Expressen's legal representatives, said the paper rejected the demands.
"This is not slander, as Fredriksson's defender has claimed," he said.

Fredriksson, 44, was not available for comment, but has said that if she got the money from Expressen, she would donate it to the Swedish Cancer Society. She and Per Gessle, the other half of Roxette, have had such hits as "It Must Have Been Love," from the "Pretty Woman" soundtrack, and "The Look."
