Sydney, AU. (Top40 Charts/ EMI MUSIC Australia) - Missy Higgins will finally return to the airwaves from 8am this Friday (Eastern Summer Time) when her new song "Steer" premieres on Australian radio. It will also be posted on Missy's myspace page (click here) from that time.

While retaining Missy's distinctively Australian sound, "Steer" has a more confident and upbeat approach than many of the tracks from her extraordinarily successful debut album "The Sound Of White".

"A lot of the songs on the last album were written from fairly dark places but "Steer" is really the opposite of that", explains Missy. "It was inspired by a realisation I had one night on the beach, looking up at this amazingly clear sky above me. It just dawned on me how short life is and how ridiculous it therefore is to spend any of it feeling compromised or unfulfilled. "Steer" just kind of fell out of that moment."

The song's video picks up on this theme of liberation. It was directed by film maker Nash Edgerton (who created the acclaimed video for "The Special Two") and sees Missy as stunt driver who literally 'steers' away from the daily grind of running into brick walls. It will premiere online via Missy's website from noon next Tuesday.

"Steer" is the first taste of the former JJJ Unearthed winner's forthcoming album which will be released in Australia on April 28th. All the songs were produced in LA by legendary singer/songwriter producer Mitchell Froom who helmed the great Crowded House and Finn Brothers albums as well as releases by Elvis Costello, Paul McCartney and Ron Sexsmith.

Plans to release the album overseas are still being finalized so stay tuned.

Missy will preview songs from the album in a handful of festival appearances in early April. She will perform on the following days / events:

The pair were joined by Dan Kelly for a version of the epic "Droving Woman" which they performed together with Glen from Augie March on the new Kev Carmody tribute album "Cannot Buy My Soul".
