New York, NY (Top40 Charts) Since they first hopped onto the scene in 2017, punkadelic pioneers, Wartoad, have made a habit (hoppit?) of falling foul of the authorities, getting variously banned from digital music platforms and YouTube, as well as being disowned by the charity they were raising money for with their Christmas single. For their next trick, they are looking to deliver some overdue justice by reinstating Sir
Cliff Richard in his rightful place as a true legend of British rock 'n' roll.
Wartoad's cover has proved very divisive among Cliff's fans and has picked up nearly 150,000 views since its release 6 days ago!
The 21st Century has not been an easy one for Sir Cliff. A number of major stations banned his music as being too goody-goody. Worse, in 2014, Sir Cliff found himself the victim of a massive invasion of privacy as the BBC overreached its powers, broadcasting live footage of a police raid at his home whilst he was out of the country. With no evidence of a crime found of any kind, Sir Cliff has had to overcome significant trauma as he was held to trial by the media with no opportunity to have his own voice heard.
Now, Wartoad is paying tribute to Sir Cliff by releasing its cover version of his first major hit, Move It, to coincide with the 60th anniversary of its original release. Whilst reverential in their treatment of Britain's first original rock n roll hit single, Wartoad retain their woozy, hypnotic edge, and bring the 1958 classic to both new audiences and those who have stuck by Sir Cliff through the good times and the bad. In light of the BBC's treatment of Sir Cliff, they have issued a directive from their legal team banning the broadcaster from playing the track on any of their stations.
Wartoad are donating all proceeds from the release of Move It to Hacked Off, a pressure group looking to prevent press intrusions into peoples' private lives. This is a rally call to true music fans around the world to buy the single and send this Cliff Classic to number one in the charts - with over 63,000 YouTube hits in four days, their target is beginning to look extremely achievable.
