New York, NY (Top40 Charts) Today, Tamino releases the deluxe edition of 'Amir,' his breathtaking debut album for Arts & Crafts. 'Amir' deluxe features new songs, never-before-released demos, and live performances with Nagham Zikrayat, the Brussels-based orchestra of Syrian and Iraqi refugees that played on the original album.
Tamino also shares the visually stunning live video for "Indigo Night." Directed by Bastiaan Lochsand and Tamino's brother Ramy Moharam Fouad, and shot in Cairo over two days this past summer, the "Indigo Night" video pays homage to Tamino's Egyptian lineage (his grandfather was legendary Egyptian singer/actor Muharram Fouad). V Magazine called the video "mesmerizing."
"It was a wonderful experience making a video in the country of my father," says Tamino, who cites the mid-20th century Cairo art movement "Art & Liberté" as inspiration. "I love Cairo, a city of many contrasts and complex, incredible history. I hope this video can serve as a small ode to the city."
Tamino's recently released NPR World Cafe session captures his spine-tingling live performance style and "heavenly" (NPR) voice.
NPR's Bob Boilen dubbed Tamino "one of the most remarkable and memorable voices to ever grace the Tiny Desk." Watch his recent Tiny Desk performance featuring Radiohead's Colin Greenwood on bass here: https://n.pr/2YmoYf8
At just 22 years old, Tamino possesses an effortless and other-worldy 3-octave vocal range that has drawn comparisons to
Jeff Buckley and Thom Yorke, but with Arabic tonal inflections. Though he grew up in Antwerp, Tamino is deeply connected to his Egyptian and Lebanese heritage, and his music combines contemporary influences with the traditions of his ancestors.
Tamino performed in Cairo for the first time this past weekend, and his Middle Eastern tour continues with upcoming dates in Turkey and Morocco. Tamino will return to the US next year for a special run of dates that includes shows at NYC's Bowery Ballroom, the Masonic Lodge at Hollywood Forever Cemetery in LA, a performance at Knoxville's Big Ears
Music & Arts Festival, and more. Full tour routing below.
