The Jayhawks To Release New Live Digital-Only Album "Live At The Belly Up"
New York, NY (Top40 Charts) The Jayhawks and Bely Up Live are pleased to announce the release of a brand new digital album — Live at the Belly Up. Recorded on January 11, 2015 at the Belly Up Tavern in Solana Beach, Calif., the album features 20 songs and more than 80 minutes of music. Though the album has been available exclusively through BellyUpLive.com since mid-February, it can now be downloaded and streamed from any of the major digital retailers, including iTunes, Amazon, Spotify, etc.

This full-length album is the first official Jayhawks live release, save for some scattered B-sides. Given the sterling reputation the Jayhawks have built up as a live band over the last 30 years, and how good the band sounds right now, this long overdue release couldn't have come at a better.

Over the course of three decades, nine albums, countless memorable live shows and enough personal drama to fill a couple of Behind the Music episodes, the Jayhawks soared to heights few ever achieve while winning the hearts and minds of numerous critics, fans and peers in the process. After releasing two indie albums in the '80s, the band signed with American Recordings in 1991 and over the next decade released five challenging, at times groundbreaking, albums, toured the world to widespread acclaim and even survived the departure of founding member Mark Olson in 1995. After a hiatus in the mid 2000s, the "classic" 1994 lineup reunited for another new studio album in 2011 and two years of solid touring, reacquainting audiences old and new with the band's timeless sound. 2014 saw a late '90s version of the band led by Gary Louris reform to support the reissues of the three albums released from 1997-2003 (Sound of Lies, Smile and Rainy Day Music), the culmination of a five-year reissue project that covered all of the band's major label releases on American Recordings. The Jayhawks continue to play live shows in 2015 are currently exploring the possibility of recording a studio album of new material.

Live at the Belly Up is an exciting document that gives listeners a chance to experience what Jayhawks fans and critics have been raving about since the band hit the road again in summer 2014. Recent set lists have focused on music from the period covered by the recent reissues but plenty of old faves are being performed, too, dating all the way back to 1989's Blue Earth album. The album features classics such as "Waiting for the Sun," "Blue," "I'd Run Away," "Save It For a Rainy Day," "Big Star," "I'm Gonna Make You Love Me" and "Tailspin." All in all, a collection of inspired renditions that offers a rich variety of Jayhawks songs from the last 25 years, with an old country cover and a few Golden Smog nuggets thrown in for good measure.

Belly Up Live is a new digital download label launched by the legendary beachside Belly Up nightclub. With this project the independently owned venue, home to concerts by John Lee Hooker to the Red Hot Chili Peppers to Jimmy Buffett over its 40-year history, provides live music fans with professionally mixed, mastered, and edited recordings from a wide array of artists, including, recently, Donovan Frankenreiter, Cowboy Junkies, Third World, and Shawn Mullins.
