This year's roster includes debuts by
Lionel Richie and CeeLo Green in a two-night stand of blockbuster for the All the Hits All Night Long tour; former Hootie & the Blowfish front man, turned country singer
Darius Rucker; pop-rock singer-songwriters
Sarah McLachlan and Sara Bareilles; progressive bluegrass trio Nickel Creek;
Sugarland lead singer Jennifer Nettles; Scandinavian electronic artists
Robyn + Röyksopp; pop-rock quartet The Fray; country music trio The Band Perry; Comedy Central star Jim Gaffigan; and Seattle-based indie rockers Band of Horses.
Returning audience favorites include rock 'n' roll legend Ringo Starr & His All Starr Band; classical crossover singers
Sarah Brightman and Josh Groban; Motown diva Diana Ross; folk-rock supergroups Crosby,
Stills & Nash,
Daryl Hall & John Oates, and Boston; alternative rockers the Counting Crows; and chart-topping pop-rockers
Gavin DeGraw and Matt Nathanson.
Fine arts highlights include a new Wolf Trap Opera production of Bizet's Carmen; The
National Symphony Orchestra with appearances by cellist Yo-Yo Ma, pianist Jean-Yves Thibaudet, innovative pop-pianist Ben Folds, Glee star Matthew Morrison, folk singer Mary Chapin Carpenter, and multimedia presentations of Pixar in Concert and 2001: A Space Odyssey. The Philadelphia Orchestra will also be featured in its only metro D.C. area performance. An expanded dance series features Pilobolus, Noche Flamenca, the final D.C. appearance of the Trey McIntyre Project, and a Wolf Trap commission by Pacific Northwest Ballet. Jazz programming includes Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra with
Wynton Marsalis and
Pat Metheny with fellow Grammy-winning artist Bruce Hornsby.
Wolf Trap's Summer 2014 season is completed by dozens of family-friendly events with performances by The
Fresh Beat Band Live in Concert!; Sing-A-Longs with Grease and Sound of Music; a live theatrical production of Disney's Beauty and the Beast; and
