New York, NY (Top40 Charts) Downtown
Music Publishing has entered into a long-term partnership with hit-making songwriter and record producer Benny Blanco. This deal re-establishes Blanco's already considerable relationship with Downtown, who signed him as one of their earliest publishing clients in 2007.
Through this new agreement, Downtown will work with Benny to represent his catalog for songs created from inception through 2015, including more than 15 #1 singles for artists such as
Selena Gomez ("
Same Old Love"),
Rihanna ("
Diamonds"),
Katy Perry ("Teenage Dream," "
California Gurls"),
Maroon 5 ("Moves Like Jagger," "Animals," "
Payphone"),
Taio Cruz ("
Dynamite"),
Ed Sheeran ("
Don't"),
Ke$ha ("Die Young," "Tik Tok," "
Your Love Is My Drug"),
Iggy Azalea ("
Black Widow" ft. Rita Ora), and many more.
At just 28 years old, the two-time GRAMMY Award winner and nine time nominee is responsible for selling over 100 million albums worldwide.
Blanco is also a three-time BMI Songwriter of the Year (2014, 2012, and 2011) and was a 2013 recipient of the Songwriter's Hall of Fame Hal
David Starlight Award.
In addition to his prolific songwriting and production career,
Blanco also runs two record labels --
Friends Keep Secrets and Mad Love -- both in partnership with Universal
Music Group and Interscope Records. Artists signed to these labels include Tony Lanez, Cashmere Cat, Ryn Weaver,
Jessie Ware, and BenZel.
"It is truly an honor to re-unite with Benny and his extraordinary song catalog," said Justin Kalifowitz, Downtown's CEO. "Our relationship dates back almost ten years to his Bangers & Cash days and we've watched him completely redefine the sound of pop music ever since. We look forward to working together in representing these towering songs for many years to come."
In partnering with Downtown, Benny
Blanco added, "I first met Justin and the Downtown team about 10 years ago, and it's been truly inspiring to watch how they have grown the company over the years. I'm a big believer in fate; so when Justin and I first started talking about working together it felt totally natural. I'm grateful to have the chance to return to the place where my career started."
In the past year, Downtown has acquired
Nikki Sixx's Mötley Crüe catalog, the works of lyricist Wayne Kirkpatrick (Eric Clapton - "Change the World"), and entered into administration agreements with renowned jazz pianist Erroll Garner ("Misty"), pop songwriter Itaal Shur (Santana ft.
Rob Thomas - "
Smooth"), and legendary Italian publishing company Edizioni Curci ("Volare,"
Dusty Springfield - "
You Don't Have To Say You Love Me"), among several others.
