LOS ANGELES, CA. (Columbia Records) - With his second album, "The One," approaching the platinum milestone, Frankie J's recent American tour became a victory lap for the singer and songwriter. Powered by a string of hit singles - "Obsession (No Es Amor)," "
How To Deal" and the title track - the album debuted at No 3 on the Billboard Top 200 album chart, was certified Gold by the RIAA two months after its release and established Frankie as a Pop/R&B superstar. On October 11, Columbia Records will release an expanded DualDisc version of "
The One" that includes Frankie's soulful version of Extreme's early '90s hit, "More Than Words."
The cover was inspired by a recent show in Boston where Frankie was asked to play an extra song to buy time for Will Smith, who was running late for his performance. With no idea what song to play, Andy Quinn, Frankie's guitarist and friend since high school, suggested "More Than Words," a song they used to play together at talent shows and coffee shops. "We hadn't played that song in years, and we didn't know if we could pull it off or if the crowd would even be into it. Sometimes you just have to get on stage and roll the dice," Frankie recalls. "As soon as Andy played that opening lick, the crowd went bananas. Everyone was screaming and singing along with me. It was probably the most beautiful moment I've had on stage in my life."
Destined to spark many romances at upcoming homecoming dances, the heartfelt love song and accompanying video will only be available on the expanded DualDisc for "The One." The audio side features the entire hit album along with four bonus tracks including "Don't Wanna Try," the smash hit from his 2003 solo debut "What's A Man To Do?," the hit single "Suga Suga," a collaboration with rapper Baby Bash, the Spanish version of "Obsession (No Es Amor)" and "More Than Words."
The DVD side contains the entire album in PCM Stereo, sizzling performance footage recorded during Frankie's appearance on "TRL," an in-depth documentary along with videos for "Obsession (No Es Amor)," "How To Deal" and "More Than Words," which features Frankie singing to Dayanara Torres (Miss Universe 1993).
Frankie also recorded a Spanish version of "More Than Words," which will appear on his upcoming Spanish-language album, "Un Nuevo Dia" (English translation: A New Day) (January 31, 2006). Featuring different styles of music like R&B, pop, rock and ballads sung in Spanish, Frankie says "Un Nuevo Dia" is a return to not only his Latin heritage but also his musical roots. "I want to show people what I'm capable of as an artist. I was brought up listening to all kinds of music and this album shows that I'm at home singing anything. This new album is about me being who I am."
