New York, NY (Top40 Charts) Following on from the success of 'My Way', Manchester's meanest spitter OneDa is back with 'Power', a triumphant song of dignity and female finesse. Throughout the song, Oneda's over-arching sentiment hits home, delivering her self-assurance, self-respect and self-esteem. A statement of how OneDa needs the approval of no-one and assistance of no one to realize her internal value.
Describing the track, OneDa breaks it down...
"Power is all about the strength that comes from having full belief in yourself and your abilities. Trusting and knowing who you truly are and the lack of need for justification by society."
The production fuses a contemporary trap beat with elements of vintage dub-reggae. The old and the new sit so comfortably together that OneDa's confident flow patterns weave in and out of the beat with ease.
A song like Power isn't one that blends in with trends, as OneDa proudly goes against the superficial grain.
"They need justification, all I need is self-affirmations /
They forgot who they are it's frustrating, Living in fear, creates new complications"
Lyrics like this should come as a breath of fresh air to the younger generations who are finding their own identity in life. Those who may have been under the illusion that validation comes from social media likes or which brands we feel are a necessity to fit in.
OneDa returned back to music in 2018, and 2019 became first female rapper to headline BBC Introducing at Manchester International Festival 2019. She also performed main stage at Manchester Pride 2019 among several other performances throughout the year.
This year she is about to step up a gear, as she has recently been made lead MC of the well known Hip Hop band 'The Mouse Outfit', set to tour with the new 8 piece live band this winter. She has also already had 2 releases this year including a remix of last year's smash single Deliveroo (Zed Bias Remix) which has accrued over 50,000 streams. Her recent video Manchester Inked has racked up over 30,000 streams and counting!
