NEW YORK, NY. (Universal Motown Records) -- Noted producer and hip hop music entrepreneur Irv “Gotti” Lorenzo (Irving Lorenzo) and his urban label imprint The Inc. announced the signing of acclaimed artist Vanessa Carlton. The signing is the first new roster addition since The Inc. entered a venture with Universal Motown Records.

The classically trained Carltons entry into The Inc. fold is an unprecedented bold step for Gotti and The Inc. in breaking down musical barriers. Gotti was introduced to the venerable Carlton through a chance introduction by Jolene Cherry, the head of Cherry Entertainment. “Vanessa is easily one of the best singer song writers that I have ever been around in my entire life and I thank God for bringing us together and for her believing in me and giving me the opportunity to show the world what I have seen. Which is V being totally amazing!!!,” stated Mr. Lorenzo, CEO of The Inc.

Vanessa Carlton burst on to the pop scene in 2002 with her debut album Be Not Nobody, unleashing the piano-tinged smash single “A Thousand Miles,” which reached the Top 5 of the Billboard Hot 100 Singles chart, garnering prestigious Grammy nominations for both Song Of The Year and Record Of The Year. Carltons follow up was the Top ten hit “Ordinary Day”. Her sophomore effort in 2004 was the critically acclaimed Harmonium. Carlton also drew rave reviews during her most recent tour with rock superstar and Fleetwood Mac singer Stevie Nicks.

Irv “Gotti” Lorenzo, groomed in the streetwise hip hop environment of Hollis, Queens, launched his label formerly known as Murder Inc., in the mid-1990s. The trailblazing imprint reigned for nearly a decade as one of the most formidable imprints under the Def Jam umbrella of labels. Responsible for millions of top selling records, Irv is recognized as the prolific production and development force behind such stars as Ja Rule and Ashanti, as well as being a highly regarded contributor to the success of a myriad of hip hop, urban, and pop, stars including DMX, Jennifer Lopez, Toni Braxton, Jay Z, Fat Joe, Bobby Brown and others.

The Inc.s current repertoire of artists includes the platinum selling artists Ja Rule and Ashanti, among others.
