New York, NY (Top40 Charts) Martha Wainwright will bring her most "sonically daring" (NPR Music) work yet to The
Tonight Show with
Jimmy Fallon November 9th. She will be performing "Around The Bend" from her new album 'Goodnight City,' which is out November 11 on PIAS. Today 'Goodnight City' is also streaming exclusively via NPR's First Listen: https://n.pr/2fHGk4t
NPR says Wainwright's "first-person stories are not standard singer-songwriter confessions: they are deep dramas, imbued with whimsy and dreamlike elements that are heightened by ingeniously varied arrangements."
'Goodnight City' features 12 tracks that twist and turn with intensity, showcasing Martha's distinguished songwriting craft and commanding voice. It includes several original works as well as songs written for this album by Beth Orton,
Rufus Wainwright,
Glen Hansard and Merrill Garbus of tUnE-yArDs. The album was produced by
Thomas Bartlett (Sufjan Stevens, Glen Hansard) and Brad Albetta (Angus and Julia Stone, Teddy Thompson).
Martha will perform a full band album release show on November 18th at Le Poisson
Rouge in NYC. Tour dates will be announced in the coming weeks.
Martha was born in New York City to folk legends Kate McGarrigle and Loudon Wainwright III. She is
Rufus Wainwright's sister and they often collaborate in shows and on records. Martha is also half sister to Lucy Wainwright Roche and they recently made a record together, "Songs In The Dark," to much acclaim including a JUNO nomination. She has spent time on the silver screen playing characters in
Martin Scorsese's "Aviator" and more recently in the HBO special "Olive Kitteridge" alongside
Frances McDormand. Currently Martha is finishing up a book titled "Stories I Might Regret Telling You."
