New York, NY (Top40 Charts) On Saturday afternoon, a post on a Michael Bublé fan Facebook group by Michelle Larsen, a digital media manager at the talent agency that represents Bublé, called the rumours that he was quitting "completely false" and asked fans not to share the story.
His publicist Liz Rosenberg said his comments about quitting music following his son's cancer struggle shouldn't be taken at face value.
"Michael Bublé has absolutely no plans to retire," Liz Rosenberg, his publicist, told today. "I wasn't sitting in on the interview but this must have been taken out of context."
Also, Rosenberg told that when Bublé said he was retiring, he may have been discussing the thoughts that went through his head during the difficult period following his son Noah's liver cancer diagnosis. "Perhaps as he discussed the different emotions he's been through these last few years, that thought might have gone through his mind," she said. "I assure you with a new album coming out, TV appearances, and a possible tour, he is not retiring."
In an interview with the Daily Mail published Saturday, Bublé talked about how his son's cancer diagnosis made him question his priorities, as well as the celebrity lifestyle. "This is my last interview," he said in the interview. "I'm retiring from the business. I've made the perfect record and now I can leave at the very top."
Michael Bublé said he was reconsidering his priorities after the diagnosis. He said he found social media and "celebrity narcissism" hollow. "The diagnosis made me realize how stupid I'd been to worry about these unimportant things. I was embarrassed by my ego, that it had allowed this insecurity," he said.
Buble, who has sold 75 million records and won four Grammys, said his son's diagnosis helped him see how he had become fixated on his own success. But the musician soon found himself recording again about a year ago and is set to release his new album, Love, next month.
