New York, NY (Top40 Charts) Omnivore Recordings presented its first-ever release for Record Store Day 2012 — the now-collectible Big Star Third [Test Pressing Edition]. Following with releases from Buck Owens, The Knack, Hank Williams, Game Theory, Jaco Pastorius, and others, the label has lived not only up to its name, but its motto: Create. Devour. Repeat.
This year's Record Store Day is no exception, as Omnivore presents three exciting offerings.
• MC Lyte, the first solo female hip-hop artist to release a full-length album, to be nominated for a Grammy® Award, and to receive BET's I Am Hip Hop Lifetime Achievement Award, returns with Legend. Fans have been asking for new music, and MC Lyte has delivered an album worthy of its title. Featuring Lyte's timeless and classic delivery of memorable lyrics, Legend also contains appearances by Common, Lil Mama, Faith Evans, Coko, Mario,
Kenny Lattimore and many others. The album features the singles "Dear John," "Ball," and "Last Time," along with "Cravin" and other singles that remind hip hop lovers why MC Lyte retains her position on the lyrical throne. Pressed on translucent gold vinyl (with download card), more details about appearances and partnerships are available at www.mclyte.com. MC Lyte: Pioneer. Innovator. Icon. Legend.
• Even when the
Beach Boys were beginning to take the music world by storm,
Brian Wilson was working with other musicians — both writing and producing. Sessions '64!! collects mono masters, stereo mixes and backing tracks from The Honeys, The Castells, and The Timers, including a previously unissued Honeys backing track. Featuring the production work of Wilson and Jimmy Bowen (who has worked with artists including Nancy Sinatra/Lee Hazelwood, Glen Campbell, and Garth Brooks), as well arrangements by Gary
Usher and
Sandra Glantz (aka Ginger
Blake from The Honeys), Sessions '64!! is pressed on 10" translucent gold vinyl in a 78 rpm style sleeve, and is destined to become an instant collectible.
• Omnivore Recordings follows last year's successful RSD release with Live From High Fidelity: The Best of the Podcast Performances, Vol. 2. This time, listeners are treated to unissued performances and chatter from Sam Phillips, Benmont Tench (Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers), Sean & Sara Watkins (Nickel Creek), John Doe (X), Jill Sobule, Glen Phillips (Toad the Wet Sprocket), The Haden Triplets, Pugwash, and Better Than Ezra. Even legendary producer Glyn Johns chimes in. The black vinyl release comes with a download card, and is sure to be sought after by not only fans of the podcast, but also fans of all the great artists involved.
All three titles will be available in participating independent record stores April 18, 2015. But hurry — they won't last long.
