British Folk Band Fairport Convention Announce The Release Of A Tree With Roots
New York, NY (Top40 Charts) At the very start of their career, North London's Fairport Convention were often mistaken for being an American band. This was largely due to their penchant for doing cover versions of songs by American singer-songwriters, in particular those of Bob Dylan.

With 2018 marking the 50th anniversary since the original 12-track Basement Tapes acetate of Dylan arrived in London, it seems the ideal time to release this 17-track CD compilation, A Tree With Roots - Fairport Convention and the Songs of Bob Dylan, out August 3 via Universal Music. It was from this Dylan white label that Fairport Convention got "Million Dollar Bash" and the Fairport splinter group Fotheringay took "Too Much of Nothing". Similarly, Manfred Mann scored a hit with "The Mighty Quinn", as did Julie Driscoll & Brian Auger with "This Wheel's On Fire" and The Tremeloes with "I Shall Be Released".

Formed in London in 1967, Fairport Convention are the hardy perennials of the British Folk scene. Over the years, they have enjoyed a shifting line-up which has helped to launch the successful solo careers of founder members Richard Thompson, Judy Dyble, Ashely Hutchings and Simon Nicol and subsequently the careers of Sandy Denny, Dave Swarbrick and Dave Pegg.

Since 1979 the band have been hosting their very own yearly festival, Cropredy, the annual highlight of which is the Saturday night headlining performance by the current incarnation of Fairport Convention plus past members and guests.
