PHILADELPHIA, (Greater Media Philadelphia)- A free concert from classic rock veterans Cheap Trick will be the highlight of the day as Classic Rock 102.9 WMGK (102.9 FM/Philadelphia) presents "Support the Base." The concert takes place on Sunday, October 2nd from 4 p.m. - 9 p.m. at the Willow Grove Naval Air Station (NAS) in Willow Grove, PA.

Classic Rock 102.9 WMGK's "Support the Base" is the brainchild of long time Philadelphia morning show host John DeBella in reaction to the recent announcement to close the Willow Grove NAS. President Bush recently endorsed a nine-member Defense Base Closure and Realignment Commission's recommendation to close 22 major military bases including the Willow Grove NAS.

Classic Rock 102.9 WMGK's "Support the Base" concert is a celebration to thank all of the hard working men and women of the United States military who have served on the base and also to thank the Willow Grove community for its support over the years. "Closing the Willow Grove Base is in a way like closing our community. It's a major contributor to the economy, the morale, and the structure of our neighborhoods. Washington needs to know and understand how important it is to us. That's why we don't want your money...we want you. We want this concert to send a message that we support the base, that we want to save our base, and that we will stand with it like it has stood with us," states John DeBella. The addition of Cheap Trick to the celebration will help to raise awareness throughout the Philadelphia area as to the important role the Willow Grove NAS has played in the community over the course of sixty years.

The Willow Grove NAS had its humble beginnings in 1926 as a private airstrip but soon after the start of World War II the United States military purchased the land for full use as a military installation. Since that time it has been the home to the Navy, Marine and Air Force as well as the Pennsylvania National Guard and members of the Army Reserves.

"102.9 WMGK's Support the Base," Sunday, October 2nd 4:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. at Willow Grove NAS is a free event for the entire family with numerous activities including a free concert by Cheap Trick, moon bounces, face paining and a craft area. The concert will be held rain or shine and plenty of free parking is available. Get all the up-to-the-minute details on 102.9 WMGK or at https://www.WMGK.com. WMGK personalities will host the event as well as broadcast live from the site.
