New York, NY (Top40 Charts) Maggie Rogers grew up playing banjo on a working farm in rural Maryland and first came to the public's attention when she appeared in a video posted on YouTube of Grammy Award-winning producer Pharrell Williams teaching a Masterclass at The Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music at NYU's Tisch School of the Arts, where Rogers, now 22, was a student.
In the clip, Rogers plays an unfinished recording of " Alaska" andthe song earned slew of media attention, including praise from Pitchfork, Slate, NPR, The Washington Post, Nylon, Stereogum, and more. Spin declares the song "blends folk, electronic, and pop music sensibilities to form an entirely new hybridized sound," while Paste calls it "hauntingly beautiful."
The Los Angeles Times said it "has the lilting vocal inflections of a country song" and "the depth of a poem." Former First Daughter Chelsea Clinton cited " Alaska" as her "Most Listened To Song" in Marie Claire magazine this month.
Maggie will be releasing more music in the coming weeks.
