New York, NY (Top40 Charts/ Verizon Wireless) Verizon continues breaking down barriers between TV and the
Internet by becoming the first TV service provider to make
Pandora (NYSE: P) - the leading personalized
Internet radio service - widely available to subscribers. The company launched the service on Wednesday (July 20) to FiOS TV customers in California,
Texas and Virginia, and it will be available in additional markets in the coming months.
FiOS TV subscribers can access their existing personalized radio stations from Pandora, or create a new account with the popular service and stream the music directly to their TV from their Motorola high-definition (HD) set-top box or Motorola DVR.
"Bringing FiOS TV and Pandora together creates another exceptional home-entertainment experience for our customers because FiOS networks your home and combines personalized Internet music with your entertainment center," said Eric Bruno, vice president of product management for Verizon. "It's another way Verizon puts advanced, integrated broadband and TV technology into customers' hands to connect them to everything they love."
Jessica Steel, executive vice president of business development for Pandora, said, "We're thrilled that FiOS TV is making Pandora available to their customers. Pandora delivered through the FiOS set-top box allows everyone in the family to enjoy their personalized radio stations in the comfort of their home."
Pandora, Verizon's latest addition to its FiOS TV application store, enables consumers to create personalized radio stations based on their favorite artists, songs and genres. Through FiOS TV, subscribers can easily access Pandora's personalized radio features, such as creating new stations, bookmarking songs for purchase, and rating songs with a simple thumbs-up or thumbs-down, all with a few clicks of the FiOS remote control.
FiOS TV customers with an existing Pandora account simply click on the "Widgets" button on the FiOS remote control, select the "Pandora" icon and enter the email address and password associated with their online account. For customers who do not have a Pandora account, subscribers click on the "Widgets" button on the FiOS remote control, select the Pandora icon and then select "New to Pandora."
Pandora and other interactive FiOS TV applications can be controlled through the FiOS TV Mobile Remote app, available on more than 40 mobile devices, including the DROID X and the Apple iPhone and iPad. The mobile remote app gives smartphones, laptops and tablets virtually the same functionality as the standard FiOS TV remote control, plus additional features including instantly transferring photos from a mobile device to the TV screen.
FiOS TV customers also can stream Internet content from Windows-based PCs to their TVs through Verizon's Media Manager service. The content includes personal media and content from various online Internet video sites.
