New York, NY (Top40 Charts) It's been three decades since Patty Smyth first covered the Tom Waits classic "Downtown Train" on her debut solo record, Never Enough. The song has been a staple of her live show, but today Smyth finally shares the raw, raspy and unadorned version she always wanted to. As the final single to preview the October 9th release of It's About Time(BMG), her first new album in 28 years, "Downtown Train" is a prime showcase of Patty Smyth's "seductive voice, which still exudes passion and a sultriness that perks your ears and makes you stop what you're doing and just listen" (American Songwriter).

"Downtown Train" is one of two covers featured on It's About Time, along with a rendition of Bobbie Gentry's "Ode to Billie Joe." Produced in Nashville with studio legend Dann Huff (Taylor Swift, Shania Twain, Kelly Clarkson), the album's six brand new originals find the Oscar, Golden Globe and Grammy-nominated Smyth contemplating, and celebrating, the challenges and changes of relationships.

Yesterday, Patty Smyth joined the TODAY Show with Savannah Guthrie & Jenna Bush Hager to discuss It's About Time, her return to making music, and songs like "Build a Fire," which looks back on the quarter-century she and husband John McEnroe have spent together. Check out the full segment, including a special appearance from McEnroe: https://on.today.com/3ctsrBj

In a career-spanning new profile, Newsweek writes that "despite the long gap in recording new material, Smyth never really left the public eye." Since first storming the scene as the lead singer of Scandal, Gold and Platinum-selling hits like "Goodbye To You" have remained rock radio standards, "The Warrior" is currently the theme song for Netflix series GLOW, she topped charts as a solo artist, acted for film, toured for decades and more.
