Two Seattleites Win Rockwired Radio's 2011 Music Awards
New York, NY (Top40 Charts/ Gayle Cloud Official Website) Singer/songwriter Gayle Cloud and roots rock band Handful of Luvin,' recently rocked Rockwired Radio's 2011 Music Awards by taking two out of the six music awards. Gayle Cloud received the Best Female Artist award for her latest CD, "Many Waters," and Handful of Luvin' took the Best Band award for their album "Life in Between."

This year marks the fifth annual awards celebration for the online radio station. Rockwired Radio founder Brian Lush says, " This year's polling yielded the highest results ever with more than 25,000 votes from fans worldwide. This year's winners are a diverse group of artists, which is reflective of our broad international listenership."

Joining winners Gayle Cloud and Handful of Luvin' are Lukas Rossi for Best Male Artist; American Hi-Fi for Best Recording (L.P.); V.T.G, Best Recording (E.P.), and Rhett Frazier Inc. for Best Song. (You can read more about the contest and listen to the award's broadcast on Rockwired's website.)

Rich with musical influences from around the globe, award-winning singer/songwriter Gayle Cloud's music is a compilation of eclectic pop, folk and sensual world beat songs. Fans say Cloud's sound is reminiscent of Pink Martini, Zero 7, Portishead, Loreena McKennit and Kate Bush, describing her music as "strong, soulful and poetic."

Cloud launched her performing career and love of world music in Paris, where she landed a regular gig at Jokko's, a club that was partially owned by celebrated Senegalese musician Youssou N'Dour. After five years in the city of romance, she found equal success in New York City, performing in venues like the CBGB Gallery and the Cutting Room. Gayle has now found her way back home to Seattle, a cosmopolitan town she considers her portal to the world. Many of her gigs these days are in Seattle venues, either solo or with her full band.

A rock quartet featuring a classically trained violinist, Handful of Luvin,' refers to their music as "fiddle driven roots rock." Their cheerful blend of folk-rock, reggae and world rhythms, features secondhand baroque and Celtic influences. Handful of Luvin's catchy pop hooks recall the vintage sound of Actual Tigers, the madness of Flogging Molly, and the moodier, experimental side of Wilco. Voted among the top five local bands by Evening Magazine three years in a row, Handful of Luvin' has opened and shared the stage with a roster of national and international touring acts such as Phish, The Proclaimers, The Samples, Brett Dennen, Young Dubliners, and many others.
