We Need Fair Trade Music: YouTube Cancels Billions Of Faked Video Views Created By The Music Industry
New York, NY (Top40 Charts) According to reports, the world's biggest recording companies have been stripped of two billion YouTube hits after the website cracked down on alleged 'fake' and 'dead' views.
The very popular website cracked down on alleged 'fake viewers' when they removed fake views from labels that are the home to artists like: Rihanna, Nicki Minaj, Justin Bieber, Alicia Keys, Rita Ora, Leona Lewis and Labrinth. Reports are coming in that say over one billion Youtube views have been removed in the video site's biggest ever crackdown on artificially inflated figures.

The severe cuts came as YouTube conducted a crackdown on fake views, but music industry sources have blamed it on housekeeping related to the migration of their videos across different channels.
As as result, Universal was left with just five videos on the site.
"This was not a bug or a security breach. This was an enforcement of our viewcount policy," YouTube announced.

Billboard charts based on airplays or streaming should be next: buying your 'popularity' or your chart position should have been dealt with long ago. How about twitter followers counts? We think they are manipulated too!
Actions like these are pretty much killing the vibe of social media, in the exact same way email was killed by spam. There was a time when you put your email address on a website and people contacted you about your hobby or business. Unfortunately this is no longer the case. It's the smaller independent artists and labels we feel sorry for. How can you be expected to make a name for yourself when the playing field is so unfairly balanced?
It's funny really, the music industry loves to complain about piracy but apparently has no problem with scamming advertising revenue out of others!
It's sick and wrong: we need fair trade music.
