NEW YORK, NY (Virgin Records) - The second single from Virgin rock band 30 SECONDS TO MARS' latest album "A BEAUTIFUL LIE," "The Kill (Bury Me)," currently No 24 at alternative radio, is set to make the multi-media jump into national video play, with the release of a brilliant short film/video of the track, directed by Danish newcomer Bartholomew Cubbins. Inspired by themes of isolation and insanity present in the Kubrickian nightmare "The Shining," Cubbins says, "The idea of isolation, identity, and self discovery were all elements present in the song. I thought this light homage was a good starting point and it soon grew to include many more elements outside of Kubrick's original piece." Jared Leto adds, "We wanted to stay away from the expected so we focused on the aesthetic and general themes that were explored in the film. It was important to make it our own."
The video comes midway through their first national headlining tour, where 30 SECONDS TO MARS is leaving a trail of sold-out shows, with dates added constantly and venues often upgraded to accommodate over-capacity ticket demand. The band is also performing on the Bamboozle and Lollapalooza dates, during the expanding course of the band's "Forever Night Never Day" tour.
The tour has been a creative crucible for the band, and an intense bonding experience with their existing and growing legion of fans. "The incredible success of the tour and the enthusiastic response to the new CD [A Beautiful Lie] has been nothing short of phenomenal. We look forward to continuing this amazing journey," adds Leto.
Leto's duality has been evident over the last 10 months: following the band's eight-month run as an opening act for The Used, My Chemical Romance, and Audioslave. Jared swiftly gained 62 pounds for his role as Mark David Chapman for the upcoming film "Chapter 27." Upon wrapping the film, he went directly home to band rehearsals and within a week and a half 30 SECONDS TO MARS opened the "Forever Night Never Day" tour.
While taking over stages across the country, television and cable visibility will also be on the rise in the coming month: on ABC's late-night program "Jimmy Kimmel Live," the band will perform live on the show's outdoor stage Friday, May 5. On cable and satellite, 30 SECONDS TO MARS will perform for DirecTV's "CD USA" May 8. Then on May 12 the band will return to TV with a performance on "Last Call With Carson Daly."
