New York, NY (Top40 Charts/ Annie Dressner Official Website) Singer-songwriter
Annie Dressner has earned early raves for her "passionate, conversational awkwardness," and for the "twilight poignancy" found on her confident, quirky debut CD 'Strangers Who Knew Each Other's Names'.
Filled with "a majestic loneliness," Dressner's poignant songs are delivered with such conversational ease, it often seems as if she's reading from an intimate letter or a book, set to music. Her straight-forward lyrical style, sharp ear for wordplay and crisp, lilting vocals offer listeners a front-row seat to her stories, as they take shape above the understated music. The album will soon be featured via iTUNES Editorial coverage.
As seen in the reviews, below, Dressner is making a strong connection with listeners, an interesting juxtaposition to her Facebook-inspired album title track, in which she recalls the experience of meeting someone first encountered via social networking, and ponders the universal disconnectedness we all build by 'friending' people who are nothing of the sort. Her collection of 11 original songs at times evokes Bright Eyes, an uptempo Mazzy Star 'Fade Into You,' or Jenny Lewis. Listen to audio samples here: www.anniedressner.com/

More about Annie Dressner, by Annie Dressner:
I've been writing songs unknowingly for a long time. I'm always singing, even when I don't realize it, and I get weird looks in elevators and such. When I was younger, my mother thought it was funny that I would sit in the back of every car ride making up my own words to the songs on the radio. I didn't know I was doing this...she told me later in life. I grew up with the hope to do theater and act, and after seriously studying it for a number of years, I realized that my true passion was music and singing. My father played piano my entire life and we used to sing and play together almost on a daily basis. I started to play piano when I was four, and quit lessons at twelve and then played jazz piano until I was a senior in high school. I used to get very nervous about soloing, and refused to do it in jazz class, and always just played what was written. I know I drove my teacher crazy with this, because he believed I could do it. The day I graduated, I picked up a children's classical guitar that was in my house (it was my brothers when he was a child) and, rather than going to my high school graduation party, I took a long walk around New York, and taught myself chord shapes out of an old Simon & Garfunkel book. This new record has been in the works for a number of years. I am glad the record took as long as it did, because it has given me time to become a better songwriter. I still have a long way to go... but I definitely have made some headway. As I mentioned, I grew up with music around me. I was raised in the same building as my grandparents - My grandmother was a violinist, and my grandfather played piano, clarinet and sax as well as writing some sheet music back in the war days. When I was five, my grandmother met me after school one day with a violin. I played for the next five or so years. I actually just got a violin again, and am going to try to learn. I think it is a beautiful instrument. I tend to play most of my sets on guitar now, because most venues do not have a piano...I am going to start writing again on piano though...
