Known to American dance music fans-including Paris Hilton and Madonna-as the man who had us whistling and singing along to five No 1 Billboard Dance Club Chart hits including "Love Generation" "World Hold On," and "Sounds Of Freedom," Bob Sinclar may not be the most obvious name when it comes to reggae, but earlier this year, he flew to Kingston to re-work his biggest dance hits for his eighth studio album, "Made In Jamaica."
Slowed down and mellowed in the warmth of Caribbean sunshine, feel-good club anthems like "Love Generation," "Word Hold On," "Jamaica Avenue" and "I Feel For You" where reborn; transformed through the prism of old school reggae into brand new songs. Welcomed with open arms by critics and fans alike, "Made In Jamaica," is now one of only five albums basking in the glow of the coveted Grammy Nomination.
Teaming up with Sly & Robbie-the legendary reggae duo known for bringing their sparse, funky, dubby sound to everyone from The Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan and avant-garde singer Grace Jones-"Made In Jamaica" features guest spots by top reggae vocalists like Gary "Nesta" Pine (of The Wailers), Tony Rebel, Dollarman and Queen Ifrica. The current single, "I Wanna" by Bob Sinclar & (Romanian duo) Sahara features yet another reggae superstar, Shaggy.
"I remix my tracks every year, and I thought it would be a good idea this time to go back and at look at them differently," explains Sinclar, who walked off with the "World's Best Selling DJ" honor at the 2006 World Music Awards. "Nowadays, music is so electronic, formatted, and I always like to surprise people!"
The 53rd Annual GRAMMY Awards will take place in Los Angeles at The Staples Center on Sunday, Feb. 13, 2011, and will air live on the CBS Television Network. Please check local listings for details.
