Internationally Renowned Cuba-Peru Super Band Mayimbe To Play Corvallis
Corvallis, Oregon (Top40 Charts/ Mayimbe) New York, San Francisco, Vancouver B.C., Corvallis ... wait, what? Internationally famous, super Cuban band - Mayimbe - has added Corvallis, Oregon, to its North American tour. On June 20, Corvallis will be invaded by Mayimberos (fans of Mayimbe) for a special, one-night concert. The show will take place at SubZero Nightclub (126 SW 4th St.), which is just barely big enough to pack in the Cuban-Salsa-Timba-loving crowd. The show will begin at 8 p.m. and is a 21-and-over event. Tickets are required and available online - https://rumbanana.org (at a savings) or at the door.

Why Corvallis? For its decent-sized population, Corvallis has one of the largest and most active Cuban Salsa dance and music communities in North America. Through community classes and a world-renowned dance performance team (Rumbanana), the city is recognized worldwide by Casineros, Timberos and Cuban Salsa enthusiasts as a major hot spot of activity. Bringing a Cuban super band to Corvallis has been a goal of Mike Eskeldson, co-director of Rumbanana, and the timing of Mayimbe's tour was a perfect opportunity to make that happen.

About Mayimbe:
Mayimbe, under the direction of Barbaro Fines, attained instant international fame thanks to its 2011 debut album, "De La Habana a Peru." The album is strongly influenced by contemporary sounds, and its gifted singers and musicians have mastered intense, rhythmical traits that characterize Cuban music. Almost instantly, Mayimbe-Mania hit the world music stage. In its recent European tour, Mayimbe played to crowds of 3,000 or more fans. And now, they are coming to Corvallis!

About Barbaro Fines, Director of Mayimbe:
Born in Havana (Cuba) in 1982, he was initiated into music at the age of 5. When he was 7, Barbaro Fines started attending the National Conservatory Alejandro Garcia Cultura, finishing his elementary piano studies at the age of 16 and moving on to another conservatory for an additional two years of training. As an 18-year-old he was already a member of several well-established bands, which gave him the opportunity to learn the different rhythms that characterize contemporary Cuban music. He quickly noticed his affinity for composing songs and sought advice from the very best: Manolito Simonet, an icon of today's generation of leading musicians, and Juan Formell, the living legend who leads Los Van Van.

While still in his very late teens, he signed a contract and moved to Peru to play with Los Conquistadores, a renowned salsa band based in Lima. Barbaro Fines currently lives there and considers the country as his second home.

Mayimbe will arrive in Corvallis a few days prior to the concert. It you'd like to make arrangements for an interview, please contact us.
