New York, NY (Top40 Charts) On January 13th, The Band of Heathens released their new album Duende, the band's fifth studio album (and eighth overall), marking their tenth anniversary as a group. The group has recently shared a video for the lead track, "All I'm Asking", which is currently streaming via Team Coco.
Duende first premiered with an exclusive stream on Rolling Stone Country. Since then it has climbed to #1 on the Americana
Music Association radio chart, with "All I'm Asking" reaching #22 on the Triple A charts as a single. The album has been similarly acclaimed in the press, with Popmatters in declaring Duende to be "the first notable Americana release of the New Year."
An album built around connection and collaboration, it spotlights a pack of players whose influences - Southern boogie-woogie, stoned soul, heartland country-rock and all points between - are as wide-ranging as their tour dates. - Rolling Stone Country
While Band of Heathens had always been on the radar, with Duende, they're coming out swinging with a sound that is beaming and confident. - No Depression
...It's abundantly clear that the Heathens have worked tirelessly on Duende to bring innovation that counts, and that makes sense when fitting together as a working machine. - Popmatters
If Band of Heathens succeeds due to the sum of their parts, Duende suggests that they are united in purpose as well. - Glide Magazine
Duende - [duen-de] (noun) 1. a quality of inspiration and passion 2. A heightened sense of emotion, expression and authenticity 3. a spirit.
Duende is an apt name for a record whose themes explore the collective search for connection and communion in a technology-fueled world increasingly splintered, distracted and lonely. As band co-founder Ed Jurdi, who first learned of the term, explains, "It's the essence of the artist," or as partner Gordy Quist says, "It's a word we don't have an equivalent for in English, artistically, that's where we tried to set the bar, to do what this band does best." The album also garnered early acclaim pre-release, with previews and exclusive track premieres on The Boot, Popmatters and Relix.
