Jussi Bjorling; O Holy Night (The unsurpassed recording of this beautiful Christmas Hymn)

This is the same 1959 recording that I uploaded last Christmas but with slightly better audio quality and more pictures of Jussi. It's the original studio recording(unfortunately made in mono because of an error made by the recording engineer on the day),newly restored and given a Concert Hall atmosphere. The text of O Holy Night was written by French wine merchant and poet Placide Cappeau in 1843.Soon afterwards a French composer Adolphe Adam composed the music. The original poem was called "Minuit, chrétiens" (Midnight, Christians) and an American Minister,John Sullivan Dwight produced the well known O Holy Night translation in 1855. By the way,if you,or anyone you know, like the great Irish tenor John McCormack,Marston Records are shortly to publish an amazing 16 CD boxed set featuring all McCormack's electrical recordings, including radio broadcasts etc, from 1925 to 1942..The restorations have been done by Ward Marston, the worlds leading, award winning expert in this field. The price of the set is extremely reasonable considering the enormous amount of work involved in it's production and the fact that it will help to preserve the legacy of one of the world's greatest singers. Further information is available on the Marston Records website.
